Today we're excited to feature Sebastian Barajas on ! Sebastian is studying bioinformatics at Tennessee State University — get to know him more below.

Title/Occupation (describe your job in 1-2 sentences): I am working on a second degree at TSU for bioinfomatics, it's a combination of biology, statistics, and computer science. I'm interested in getting into data science in the technology sector.

Why did you decide to join Conexión Next? I was looking for a young professionals group that I could connect with. Conexión Next introduced me to the influence the Hispanic community had in Nashville as well.

What's one thing people don't know about you? When I was 13, I spent a month in Colombia with extended family. That's when I really improved my Spanish.

Favorite hangout spot in Nashville? Shelby Park is a great place to visit and at night, has a great skyline view of the city.

What's your favorite thing about Conexión Next? Conexión Next is a great place to network people of a diverse career background. I've had great talks ranging from business ideas to forms of cancer treatment done at Vanderbilt.

I currently serve as Executive Director of FUTURO, Inc. and Client Executive for Culture Shift Team. FUTURO is an inclusive college-success professional development organization that focuses on the Latino principles of "Familia." Culture Shift Team is a multicultural diversity, equity, and inclusion marketing consultancy. I love the work I do each day to help bring equity to underrepresented communities.

Why did you decide to join Conexión Next?
Conexión Americas was the very first place that welcomed me as a Latina when I first moved to Nashville in 2013 from Miami. I felt like I found a place where I can be myself. I was one of the first members of Conexión Next when it first began, I joined the CN Board a couple of years ago and continue to support it now as a member. I enjoy meeting other young professionals who are the emerging leaders of this community.

What's one thing people don't know about you?
I did an internship for Walt Disney World when I was 19, it changed my life. I love Disney, I met really great people there!

Favorite hangout spot in Nashville?
I love the arts, I really enjoy watching shows at TPAC, visiting the Frist Art Museum. or listening to live music at Plaza Mariachi. I also am a self-proclaimed foodie and really enjoy eating out at local restaurants that offer international cuisine. I'm hoping I will get a chance to do some of this when it is safe to do so.

What's your favorite thing about Conexión Next?
I love the people! Young leaders who are committed to service, interested in getting connected with others, and who value diversity. What's not to love!?!
