Dr. Donna Summerlin is retiring. We had a wonderful send off for her. She will always be in our hearts and will be one of our dearest colleagues. She did an amazing job at leading the department of Language and Literature.

One of the most important things that a Spanish major does in the Spanish Program is the OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) and WPT ( Writing Proficiency Task). These are exit tests.

Over the past 15 years, our students have consistently achieved a very high Proficiency average level, reflecting the strength of our program and the dedication of both faculty and students.
This year confirms that tradition of excellence: 90% of our students reached the Advanced Proficiency level in both speaking and writing after 4 years of Spanish at Lee University.
These results demonstrate our students’ ability to communicate effectively, organize ideas clearly, and perform at a high level in real-world language use.
We celebrate this achievement and reaffirm our commitment to maintaining the highest standards in language education.

Anna Lawry, Olivia Graves, Kira Phelps, Julia Haltermann, and Emma Hamilton.

Congratulations!

The Spanish Program is happy to announce that our graduating senior and major Olivia Graves was honored with the Spanish Award for Language Proficiency and Excellence in recognition of her outstanding command of the language and consistent academic achievement. Throughout her coursework, she demonstrated advanced proficiency in speaking, writing, reading, and listening, coupled with a strong ability to communicate effectively in the target language. Her work reflected cultural awareness and critical thinking and, in addition, Olivia showed exceptional dedication, actively participating in class discussions, engaging in immersive learning experiences. Her commitment to excellence and her ability to apply Spanish in meaningful, real-world contexts set her apart as a model of academic and linguistic achievement.

Congratulations!!

We are very pleased to announce that Julia Haltermann and William Myers, Spanish majors, were awarded with the Guerrero-Hardin Love Scholarship. This scholarship supports Spanish Program students who embrace the diverse Hispanic people and contribute to the Spanish Speaking Heritage and mainly serve people in Latin American countries/communities.

Due to the generosity of the scholarship, they will be equipped and involved with mission organizations in the future. May the Lord lead them and guide them as they go in their lives.

Congratulations!!
