Farmer Feature - another senior, Jenna Williams!
“After volunteering at the farm many times, I fell in love with the animals, nature, and people so much so that I decided to work there. I loved the sense of community that the farm reflects and I’m so happy I was apart of it, even if for a short time. During my time here, I’ve learned so much about taking care of animals and I also gained a deeper appreciation for the amount of work and care that goes into farming. I would definitely encourage others to try volunteering or working at the farm, even if they don’t have prior experience, because it’s both eye-opening, therapeutic, and rewarding to be a steward of the land! Thank you to everyone for your kindness, I will miss working with you.”
Thank you for your time at the farm, Jenna! 🌸

Ready for summer! Even though final exams and assignments are turned in and students are returning home for the break, things aren’t slowing down at the farm! We’re busy seeding, planting, harvesting, and weeding, taking care of growing chicks and grazing goats, and looking forward to preparing for summer interns and summer CAMP in June! Stay tuned!

Chick spotlight! Some of you may recognize this guy from last summer. Although his mother hen was very devoted to her nest of eggs, she lost all nurturing parental instincts as soon as he hatched. Fortunately our farmers were able to step in, and after spending a couple nights under careful and constant supervision, he made a full recovery!
Raising a single chick can be a challenge, especially when it’s time to introduce them to the rest of the flock, but another local farmer was able to donate a couple of his extra chicks, so this guy wasn’t alone for long! He grew up well- socialized with both people and chickens, and now he’s thriving with the entire flock!

This week’s Farmer Feature is one of our graduating seniors, Kourtney Crouch, who has been with us at the farm for the past four years.
“I started at the Trevecca Urban Farm in 2022 and had no idea how much it would change my life. I have met so many incredible people during my time here and formed lifelong friendships. Not only that, but I found what I think is my true calling in life. Being around such amazing animals and people has inspired me beyond words. All the work being done here is incredible. If you haven’t visited and talked to the staff here, you absolutely should. It might change your life, too.”
Kourtney, you have been an invaluable member of this team and we are so proud of you. Thank you for your leadership and service. 🐐

As spring is in full swing, we’re trying to be mindful of our wild neighbors as we pick up working in gardens and on our nature trail - we found this nest of baby birds in one of our goats’ temporary grazing pastures this week! We were able to move the fencing to keep the nest protected, but could’ve easily missed it had some of our students not been paying attention!
If you can, avoid mowing this month as pollinators, birds, and mammals are being born and looking for shelter and food. Happy Earth Day! 🌎🌳🐝🐣

They grow up so fast! These pictures were only taken a couple weeks ago but the trees have already fully leafed out now! How many of these blossoms can you ID? 👀
