Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 572 provides skilled apprentices and journeyman workers for job sites requiring plumbers, pipefitters, welders, and HVAC service technicians. The Apprenticeship Program is a 5 year program. During the program apprentices are dispatched to job sites, where they gain valuable on the job training as well as their prescribed school training. Upon completion of the Appren
ticeship Program individuals are considered Journeymen. Continuing education for journeymen is also provided by this facility.Journeyman training is designed to increase, enhance, and keep current the skills of those who have already obtained journeyman status. As new technology and tools are developed, workers are able to upgrade their existing skills to maintain their position in the workforce. Cross training in other skills allows workers to be given jobs that otherwise would not be available to them. Why does this program exist? Increasing a worker’s skills fills a twofold purpose. Area businesses are provided with a larger, more readily available qualified workforce. Jobs can progress and be completed without downtime and costs associated with recruiting and hiring. Additionally, rather than requiring multiple employees to be sent to a job, a single employee may be able to perform all the necessary functions at that site. For the apprentice and journeyman, multiple skill sets expand their ability to be hired. Both employer and employee benefit on the job as systems are able to be installed from an overarching plan as opposed to being built piece by piece.
