Growing up, Eugene always wanted piano lessons, but they were financially inaccessible for his family. As an adult, he finally started lessons (and was a natural!) but quickly faced his own obstacles preventing him from continuing. Melodia’s Scholarship Program was able to provide encouragement and a few more piano lessons for Eugene 🎹

We believe music lessons should be accessible to ALL. All ages, races, genders, or socioeconomic backgrounds.

This town ain’t big enough for the both of them, so they’re off to college after a lifetime of piano lessons! 🥹🎹🎓

These two have grown up together like brother/cousin/BFFs, and their piano teacher feels like she’s been their aunt/bonus mom/teacher. How did they start out so small (needing a raised piano bench to make them tall enough to reach the keys) and become such young adults towering over us, going out into the world on their own?!

It has been a privilege and an honor to be a part of their musical journeys and growth all these years. Proud and sentimental is an understatement!

Allow me to reintroduce myself. My name is Ariel Bui (musical artist & activist) aka Ms. Ariel (owner & piano teacher of since 2012).

Self-taught in piano since preschool, music gave me a source of mindfulness and joy amidst an unstable and traumatic childhood.

I just wanted to play for fun. When I witnessed other kids cry and feel forced, I decided I didn’t want lessons… until I was recruited to be a piano major in college.

At Rollins College, I not only learned to perform classical works, but I studied theory, composition, voice, and Piano Pedagogy—the art and business of teaching piano.

After graduating in ‘09, I went in a different direction, pursuing climate justice through sustainable architecture in New Mexico. But music called me back and landed me in Music City, USA, 2011.

That’s when I founded Melodia Studio, with a collective of other teaching artists—female musicians with dual careers as music teachers—and a unified drive to make music lessons fun!

I am passionate about the immense benefits of learning music and how it makes us well-rounded members of our communities. My goal is not to churn out competitive classical pianists (which is also valid and there are other teachers out there for that). I like to teach the basics so you can play whatever you want!

My goal is to bring joy, love, care, and encouragement to my students of all ages, from preschoolers to adults.

That’s why I love this photo taken and edited by my student Esme. I love this student POV of me as a piano teacher, beaming with love, pride, and joy for my students.

I feel so honored to get to call this my living for the last 13 years and counting. And as my students grow, graduate, and take breaks for the summer, I invite you to consider trying out piano lessons if it’s something you’ve been considering! Especially while I have room in my schedule for a few new students—which isn’t always the case!

May 2025 Recital 🎹🥳

Can’t believe how big all my students are getting! 🥹 Some are getting lots of visits from the tooth fairy 🧚‍♀️ while two graduated from high school 🎓and are off to college! So proud of their musical progress…and hope everyone’s having a great summer, or what we used to say back in my day…H.A.G.S!!!
