This month our Social Emotional Learning curriculum focuses on Respect and the role that Respect plays in our overall Kindness to one another. SBA families receive a weekly newsletter with information about these social-emotional initiatives and tools to use at home. This curriculum is an important piece of the nurturing environment that SBA provides for all students in our PreK-8th grade setting.

For over 150 years, our faculty and staff have expanded and modified our curriculum to suit the needs of all our students.
The knowledge that each child is unique in his or her manner and rate of development guides the program. We encourage each student to strive toward his or her maximum potential.

Week three is almost in the books! Our Upper School students and teachers are really settling into their school routines. We’ve organized our lockers, memorized our class schedules, and studied for the first quizzes and tests of the school year. These Bears are rocking it! ❤️💙

We recently got to work with the Sisters of Mercy on the creation of our soon-to-be-installed Mercy Mosaic, a very special (and very large!) work of art by Prado Art Studios. It was a joy to catch up with the Sisters and have them join in this community project that will grace the exterior walls of our school very soon. You’ll notice lots of concentration in these photos… we were hard at work to help with the final phase of this project!

What looks like "just play" creates deeper connections that build lifelong skills. As our Junior Kindergarteners and Kindergarteners work, it’s easy to see the future architects, artists, animal trainers, and more that they will become. The building blocks of their education are formed in JK and K and our goal is to lay a strong and secure foundation.

The Grainger Garden is still flourishing with summer bounty, despite the current heat wave in Nashville! SBA’s courtyard features a student-led garden that is planted year round. This space supports our mission as a Mercy Education school and our curricular focus on caring for the Earth. There is no better way to learn than hands-on!

2nd Level recently participated in Market Day where students created and managed their own storefronts. All products were made out of paper and students were able to buy and sell from their peers. Mrs. Toomey even stopped by to shop!
