Just found out today that Metro Schools will begin razing Stokes Middle School at 3701 Belmont Blvd next week. The opportunity for pictures is short.

This is Mae Ambrose and I along with many other Burros received an email today about the renaming of the HHS Gym to the Ed Hessey/Jackie Turner Gym. There are 3 attachments and I will try to attach them. The email with a link is posted below:

"First let me tell you who I am. I am Laura Ward Rodriguez and graduated from Hillsboro in 1973. I played basketball, volleyball and ran track for Miss Turner, as well as, took chemistry from her.

During a tour of Hillsboro and after seeing the names on buildings, courts and fields, we recognized that there was a glaring omission. To rectify that mistake, a group of alumni started working to get recognition for Miss Turner. After many months and obstacles, we have accomplished our goal with two successes.

First, with the endorsement of Ed Hessey's son, the main gym will be renamed the Ed Hessey - Jackie Turner Gymnasium. We don’t yet have a date for the dedication but it should be this fall and I will pass that information on as soon as I have the date. I hope to see many former players and students there.

Second, for many years, the Jackie Turner Award has been given to a senior girl who excels in academics, athletics and sportsmanship. We would like to add a scholarship to this award. We are partnering with The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee for the administration of this fund. The funeral service for Lee Maxcy will be streamed live on the St. George’s Episcopal website. Friday June 16, 2023 at 1:30. No visitation at the church but a celebration of life 4-6 pm at his house, 4500 Beacon Drive 37215. Near Harding Place.

It is with great sadness that I post about our HHS reunion committee member Lee Maxcy. He passed away last week from pulmonary fibrosis at St. Thomas West. What a great guy! The obit was just posted yesterday. You can contact me at 615-969-0487 or [email protected]. Mae

I also found out that classmate Linda Bilbrey Wheaton died between 2012 and 2022. I have not been able to locate an obit or any other information.

I just heard that Lindy Johnson, a 71 graduate of our Hillsboro Class passed away in Newnan Georgia, outside of Atlanta, in September of 2021. I think she came to Percy Priest in 6th grade.

"6:00 P.M. on TUES, 4/11 is new time/date for the upcoming PERCY PRIEST ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TOUR. (As some of you may remember, the time on the original date, 3/30, was 5 p.m., but this has been moved up an hour.) After we tour the school, we're going to meet at The Green House restaurant on Bandywood in Green Hills to play catch-up with fellow alumni.

For those of you who may have attended Percy Priest (but are not on the Percy Priest Class Of 1977 FB page to know about this): the current structure that's been there at least since the 60s will be torn down, and a more modern facility will be built in its place, sometime after the current school year ends.

Rob Cochrane from our class talked to the principal of the school and arranged the upcoming tour.

I've long said that we should have a Percy Priest reunion, so I hope to see many of my fellow Priest students there!"

So sorry to hear about the passing of classmate Steve Howell. He had attended Julia Green Elementary.

Our classmate Jackie Postell has passed away and the obituary is listed below. You may know that her sister Lyn, died earlier this year in Georgia. I am so glad that Jackie came to our reunion in May as she was really looking forward to it.
