Who says you can't turn a "tall tale for kids" into an analytic study for high school students!? This past Friday night, students from Ms. Fellows's Advanced Placement Literature and sophomore ELA classes traveled to Valdosta to experience a live performance of Roald Dahl's Matilda put on at the Dosta Theatre--after enjoying pizza and arcade games at CiCi's, of course. They linked this silly children's story to prior learning of other Dahl's twisted tales such as "The Landlady" and "Lamb to the Slaughter" while learning about how literary elements, such as hyperbole and understatement, create humor and satire. They also reviewed some of his biographical information to take a deeper look at author's purpose. Further, they will continue by analyzing more of Dahl's short stories and diving into a deeper analysis of the author's views of the world, leading them to a comprehensive idea of underlying thematic messages. These activities will guide these young learners as they journey toward the sophomore-year milestones test and AP exam, which they will take at the end of fall and spring semesters. Berrien Academy teachers love making learning fun! This field trip was made possible by Family Connection/Communities In Schools of Berrien County and we are so thankful for their continued support!

The PSAT is a great opportunity for 10th grade students to gain experience with college entrance testing while identifying academic strengths and areas for growth. It also helps students prepare for the SAT and can open the door to scholarship opportunities in the future.

Interested 10th graders will have the opportunity to take the PSAT on October 22. More information will be shared soon by Mrs. Boda!
