Last week, 980 pocket Constitutions were delivered to Tulsa County schools — with another 2,095 on the way!

That’s more than 3,000 students getting the founding document of our country in their hands just in time for Constitution Day, September 17th.

SUNDAY REFLECTIONS | FAITH, CHARACTER & OUR CONSTITUTION

As we approach Constitution Day on September 17, it is worth remembering that our Founders understood something essential about liberty:

A Constitution alone cannot preserve a nation.

The principles of freedom, self-government, responsibility, and justice depend upon the character of the people entrusted with them.

John Adams famously wrote:

“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious People. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

Adams understood that a free society requires more than laws written on paper. It requires citizens guided by conscience, personal responsibility, virtue, and respect for something greater than themselves.

Faith deeply influenced the world in which our Founders lived. Biblical teachings about human dignity, accountability, justice, morality, and the imperfect nature of mankind helped shape the ideas they brought into America’s experiment in self-government.

That is why our Constitution created checks and balances, divided power, protected individual liberty, and recognized that government itself must be restrained.

As we prepare to celebrate the signing of the Constitution, may we remember that preserving liberty is not simply the responsibility of Washington, D.C.

It begins in our homes, our churches, our schools, and in the hearts of “We the People.”

🙏 May we continue to pray for our nation, teach the next generation, and live worthy of the freedoms entrusted to us.

SATURDAY SPOTLIGHT | 12 DAYS UNTIL CONSTITUTION DAY

On September 5, 1787, the delegates gathered in Philadelphia were nearing the end of an extraordinary summer of debate, disagreement, compromise, and determination.

With only 12 days remaining before the signing of the United States Constitution, they were still working through some of the most difficult questions facing the new nation — including the powers of the President, how the President would be elected, and the responsibilities of Congress.

They did not rush the process.

They debated.
They challenged one another.
They compromised.
And ultimately, they created a framework of government unlike anything the world had ever seen.

On September 17, 1787, their work would be presented to the nation with three unforgettable words:

🇺🇸 WE THE PEOPLE. 🇺🇸

As Constitution Day approaches, let us remember that this remarkable document was not inevitable. It was created through hard work, sacrifice, thoughtful debate, and a belief that liberty was worth protecting.

🇺🇸 FOUNDERS FRIDAY | JAMES MADISON 🇺🇸

As we count down the days to Constitution Day on September 17, we honor one of the most influential architects of our nation’s founding: James Madison.

Often called the “Father of the Constitution,” Madison arrived at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 prepared with ideas that would help shape the framework of our government. He understood that liberty could only endure when power was divided, balanced, and restrained by the rule of law.

Madison later helped write The Federalist Papers, championed ratification of the Constitution, and introduced the amendments that became our Bill of Rights.

His life reminds us that the Constitution was not simply written for one generation. It was entrusted to every generation that followed.

As we approach September 17, may we recommit ourselves to reading it, understanding it, and teaching the next generation why it still matters.

Fourteen days before the Constitution was signed, the Founders were still at work.

On September 3, 1787, the delegates gathered again in Philadelphia with no guarantee that their historic effort would succeed.

Among the issues before them that day was an important question: How would the states recognize and respect one another’s laws, records, and court decisions?

Their work helped shape what we now know as the Constitution’s Full Faith and Credit Clause—a principle that strengthened the bonds among the states and helped transform a loose confederation into a more united nation.

Imagine the weight of those September days.

For more than three months, the delegates had debated, disagreed, compromised, reconsidered, and continued working. Now, with September 17 drawing near, the final pieces of our Constitution were beginning to fall into place.

They were not creating something merely for themselves.

They were building a framework of government for generations they would never live to see—including us.

As Constitution Day approaches, may we remember that this extraordinary document was not produced in a moment. It was forged through perseverance, thoughtful debate, compromise, and a belief that liberty was worth the effort.

The annual observance of the United States Constitution Day returns on Sept. 17.
