At our Recognition Ceremony on May 20, we proudly announced the establishment of the first endowed teaching chairs in Oak Hill School history. This is an important milestone that reflects a significant investment in our teachers and in the future of our school.
Cherrie Forte Farnette Endowed Teaching Chair
Given by The Caver Family — Jennifer, Giles, Henry ’13, Will ’13, and Sarah Jean ’17 — in honor of the life and legacy of Jennifer’s mother, Cherrie Forte Farnette, daughter of Oak Hill School’s first Head of School, Imogene Forte. Cherrie served as a member of the OHS Board of Trustees and was a pioneer in the field of learning differences in Nashville. An advocate for children and an encourager of families, Cherrie believed deeply in recognizing the unique learning styles of every student and unlocking the potential within each child. Her early work at the Kennedy Center at Peabody College at Vanderbilt University and with the Dyslexia Association, as well as her leadership in developing community and parent education programs at Currey Ingram Academy, established her as a guiding light for countless families and educators. This is the first departmental chair established at Oak Hill. It honors the work of the Learning Services Department. The work Cherrie began decades ago was carried forward at Oak Hill by Maureen Milam and is now led by Maggie Counter.
The Claire Templeton and Richard Morgan Miller, Jr. Endowed Chair for Teaching Excellence
Given by Ric ‘67 and Claire Miller, The Claire Templeton and Richard Morgan Miller, Jr. Endowed Chair for Teaching Excellence will be awarded annually to an exemplary faculty member. Ric Miller attended Oak Hill School in its infancy, along with his two younger sisters, Ellen Miller Tanner ‘70, and Claire Miller Robbins ‘71. The next generation followed in their parents’ footsteps. All four of Ric’s sons, Morgan ‘96, Alastair ‘97, Chase ‘02, and Evers ‘04 attended Oak Hill along with six other nieces and nephews. The third generation is currently making their way through, with five grandchildren in attendance. Through this endowed chair, the family will honor Oak Hill’s teachers by sponsoring an annual award for an exceptional faculty member. The first recipient of the award is third-grade teacher Tonya Tidwell.
We are extremely grateful to both the Caver and Miller families for their extraordinary generosity, leadership, and longstanding love for Oak Hill School.
