Book'em

Book'em Book'em empowers Nashville's underprivileged children by fostering a love of books and reading.

Book'em gives thousands of books each year to underprivileged children, many of whom do not have books at home. Most of the books we give away are donated to us by individuals and through book drives conducted by businesses and organizations. We also send 250+ volunteers into the community to read to pre-school and elementary school children.

Every story opens a new world. This September, we're gathering to celebrate that idea, and we'd love to have you there.

Join us on September 22, from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at 14TENN to hear from featured speaker Christina Soontornvat, a three-time Newbery Honoree, and spend the morning with people who believe books can change a child's whole world.

Thanks to a generous dollar-for-dollar match from The Harnisch Foundation, every gift will be doubled up to $55,555.

Seats are limited. Reserve yours today: bookem-kids.org

Can't make it in person? Your gift can still have twice the impact right now. Donate at bookem-kids.org/donate.

The first Book Bus Birthday Bash was one for the books! 🎉📚

We've been soaking it all in since the event, and we're still smiling. Thank you to everyone who joined us for a day filled with celebration, community, and reading joy. Throughout the day, families enjoyed free cookies, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, face painting, interactive story times in both English and Spanish, and the chance to read with our four-legged friends Norman and Winston. Guests also helped grow the Book Bus collection by donating books that will bring the joy of reading to even more kids across Nashville.

A huge thank you to our sponsors, volunteers, staff, and supporters who made it all possible. Your generosity helps us continue putting books into the hands of children across Nashville and creating meaningful reading experiences that last long after the event ends.

We're already looking forward to next year! ❤️📚

Come out Saturday 9:30-12n and have fun with the kids at this free family event at Cornelia Fort Park. They'll be games, a scavenger hunt with prizes and story time. Meet Norman the therapy dog too.
Don't forget to bring a book to donate to stock the shelves of the Book'em Book Bus. All books are given to children in Nashville who may not have access to books at home.

🎉 The Book Bus is turning another year older, and we’re celebrating!

Join us for the FREE Book Bus Birthday Bash on Saturday, June 27 from 9:30 AM to noon at Cornelia Fort Airpark in Nashville.

We’ll have story times, face painting, a scavenger hunt, Book Bus tours, and plenty of fun for the whole family. Best of all, it’s completely free.

Families are welcome to bring a new or gently used book to donate to our Book Drive. Every book goes directly to a child in our community. No book? No problem. Everyone is welcome.

Kaitlyn Benavides, an MNPS parent, organized a “Free Book Store” for a K–2 Book Club at Rosebank Elementary in East Nashville, giving students the chance to choose their own books and discover the joy of reading 📚💛

Moments like these remind us how powerful access to books can be.

When students choose their own books, they are more motivated, more engaged, and more likely to develop a love of reading. Research also shows self-selected reading can be twice as effective in building those skills (Guthrie & Humenick; Scholastic).
