Today’s Spotlight: YAB Impact Statement

“I was first introduced to Youth About Business in the summer of 2023, and since then it has
become the backbone of my professional development. My time with YAB was more than just
participating in a case competition, it was a magnifying glass into how the real world truly works.
Through this program, I learned how to effectively network with peers, supervisors, and
professionals in positions of leadership. Those skills helped me earn an on-campus consulting
internship, step into a leadership role on my collegiate basketball team, and develop the
confidence to walk into any room believing I belong there.
Beyond the skills and opportunities, YAB gave me insight into careers I never knew existed.
Growing up in Wisconsin, you rarely see people of color in leadership positions, and many of us
don’t grow up knowing what an investment banker does or how to build the type of career we
dream about. Youth About Business encouraged me to broaden my horizons and gave me the
tools and perspective to take that first step toward a bigger future.”

“The time I spent in my business classes compared to the time that I spent in Youth About Business, my time in Youth About Business destroyed it. They blew it (school classes) out of the water because we were actually doing what we were learning about. They made a good balance of it. We spent time in lectures, but we applied the knowledge. We did everything that we would do in school, but we did it in a way that we learned more and did it in a fun way. I still reference what I learned there often more than I would stuff that I learned in my high school business classes....and I only spent 3 weeks with Youth About Business compared to 4 years in high school.” -Chris O.
