From the first day of taking measurements to the final press of their jackets, our Tailoring students worked hard. If you have ever made a tailored jacket, you know exactly how much love you need to put in to do it right!
Thanks, students, for showing up with passion and perseverance.
Also, this was our first class ever with a baby in attendance. We are hoping he becomes a tailor someday.

Meet Alex, our new production manager! Alex started with Sewing Training Academy in January, but she has been in the STA orbit since 2016 when she applied to intern with STA.
Her path took her a different direction, though, to a gig at Elizabeth Suzann, a local design house known for their sustainable fabrics and ethical manufacturing, At Elizabeth Suzann Alex honed her skills as a Production Sewist. When she was promoted to Sewing Team Leader in 2017, she once again connected with STA to hire our graduates for the ES sewing team. In 2020 Alex consulted with STA to create the framework for the STA production facility. That same year Alex launched , her (very cool) jean brand with hand-dyed fabrics and signature checkerboard color blocking, and in 2022 she participated in SewPOP as a vendor. Most recently she wowed our students as a lecturer in Career Survey, a class in which students learn about the careers of individuals in the sewing and fashion industry.
After all this time of swirling in our orbit, Alex has landed on the STA team! It’s about time, we say, and we can’t wait to see what she will accomplish here at Catholic Charities!

Course Description: This 8-week course is the foundation of our sewing program and is specifically for students looking for a full-time career in sewing and sewing entrepreneurship. No prior experience required. The curriculum has been certified by the Department of Labor, and qualified students can move onto a paid job at the STA production facility after the course. This class replaces our Foundations course as the first step in classes at the Sewing Training Academy. All supplies and textbook are provided by STA.
Days & Times: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 am to 3:30 pm
Duration: 8 weeks
Dates: Monday, February 5 through March 27, 2024

We’ve been busy preparing for SewPOP around here, and students from classes past came to help make decor. It was so good to see their faces, and great to realize that all these former students are using what they learned at STA in their careers.
Come out and see us at SewPOP this Saturday from 10-4 at The Clay Lady Campus, 1416 Lebanon Pike. Their will be 100+ people selling their wares between SewPOP and Clay Lady’s Holiday Sale!
