Each year, NALC publishes a collection of works called In Our Words. Last year, one of our learners wrote a piece about her dog named after Dolly Parton. It is a beautiful story about the love a family shares for their adopted dog, written by a brave and tireless English language learner.
Learners and Volunteers are invited to submit their written works and recipes to be included in this year's publication by visiting https://forms.gle/oU7YwrUMuCT4rS748

Like so many of us, we at NALC are grieving the loss of a woman who was so many things to so many people. To us, Dolly Parton was above all a champion of literacy. She spoke openly about her daddy's struggle with reading as an adult, helping normalize the need for literacy tutoring and remove the stigma so many of our learners carry. Thank you, Book Lady, for your unending kindness and generosity. Learn more about her legacy at Dolly Parton's Imagination Library:

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free books to children from birth until they begin school in participating areas.

Maria has been on the wait list for two years.
She's one of 500 people waiting for the chance to read their first book.
When that chance finally comes? She's not on the outside anymore. She walks in.
Over the next few weeks, you'll meet some of the people who've been waiting — and see for yourself what reading opens up for someone who's been locked out of it.
Thank you for being part of this.
