Today, we celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day. A day that encourages us to move away from colonialism and instead commemorate the rich history of indigenous culture in the United States and around the world.

Today is National Coming Out Day. On October 11, 1987, half a million people marched on Washington for LGBTQ+ rights which later became National Coming Out Day. Every year on this day, Lambda Theta Alpha celebrates our diverse membership and the courage to come out as le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, q***r/questioning, intersex, asexual and everyone who does not conform to labels predetermined by heteronormative society.

Lambda Theta Alpha recognizes World Mental Health Day, which comes at a time when our daily lives have changed considerably as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s important to remember to be kind to ourselves today and everyday and support friends and family who may be struggling.

A lot of 2020 has been reactionary – reacting to an intrusive and unseen life threatening virus, reacting to police brutality against the Black community and systemic racism. Before we move into a new year, we want to be PROACTIVE.

This years theme for Giving Tuesday is 20/20 Vision. Our theme is driven by our mission to advance communities whiling having a forward looking vision, instead of backward facing hindsight.

Save The Date: 12.01.2020. More information to come on how you can join us.

This month we remember the trailblazing q***r activists and the many years of continued fighting for LGBTQ+ rights. We celebrate our members from all walks of life, intersectional experiences, and identities. October is a month to celebrate q***r history and culture but every day should be seen as a celebration for q***r lives.
