Today, the 6th grade celebrated their Knighting Ceremony, a cherished Waldorf tradition that marks both the culmination of their medieval history studies and an important step into adolescence.

Over the past several months, students worked to earn their knighthood through personal reflection, acts of service, and physical challenges, demonstrating growth in character, courage, and responsibility.

During the ceremony, each student was honored with a title that reflected their unique qualities and strengths. Among the titles bestowed were Loyal Discerner, Gentle Visionary, Authentic Dreamer, Watchful Wanderer, Humble Virtuoso, Righteous Voyager, and Genuine Enthusiast.

In a Waldorf classroom, chalkboard drawings often remain on display not just to illustrate a lesson, but to create an atmosphere.

Each new term brings new Main Lesson topics and fresh chalkboard designs to welcome them. Behind every board is care, intention, and quiet dedication. These drawings reflect a learning experience that has been thoughtfully prepared, where curiosity is nurtured, and each student’s potential is already seen.

They invite students to wander imaginatively through a story, absorb a concept, and simply be present in the moment.

At a time when many schools have replaced chalkboards with screens and whiteboards in the name of efficiency, a teacher’s hand-drawn chalk art feels rare and meaningful. More than decoration, it is an invitation to slow down, connect, and experience learning more deeply.

It has been quiet on campus last week as 8th, 7th, 6th, 4th, and 3rd were away on their class trips.

Each year, students embark on class trips to destinations such as San Diego, Grayson Highlands in Virginia, Mammoth Cave in Kentucky, Fall Creek Falls in Tennessee, and Bells Bend/Old School Farm in Nashville.

These experiences are thoughtfully crafted to enrich the curriculum and classroom learning, while also cultivating independence, fostering teamwork, encouraging a deeper connection with nature, and inspiring students to connect with each other as they explore new places together.

SPORTS FLASH: Last week, all the athletes who participated in Linden's winter and spring sports were recognized at last week's assembly.

Special recognition was given to basketball players who earned the DAC All-League certificate, and our golfer who earned Top Performer at the DAC Golf Championship tournament.

ALUM Spotlight Sports Edition: Sisters Erin (Class of 2022) and Audrey (Class of 2024) were part of the USN Ultimate Frisbee team that won the 2026 Tennessee State Champions after defeating Independence 11-7 on Saturday.

The wet-on-wet watercolor paintings featured here are an essential part of the Waldorf classroom, nurturing each child’s inner life through the direct experience of color.

Throughout the year, first graders explore primary colors one at a time, gradually discovering how these colors interact and blend. After painting with each of the primary colors singly, try the various two-color combinations: red/yellow, red/blue, and yellow/blue.

Instead of aiming to create a finished picture, children are encouraged to explore how colors move, blend, and relate to one another on wet paper. This open-ended process strengthens their imagination, supports emotional development, and fosters a sense of calm, presence, and flexibility.

Through this open and fluid approach, children cultivate a deeper sensitivity to beauty and lay a healthy foundation for future artistic and intellectual growth.

Last week, the 8th-grade students presented the projects they have been developing throughout the year. Each student selected a topic they were genuinely interested in exploring and worked alongside a mentor who guided them through the process, helping them understand the skills, effort, and steps required to bring a project to life.

Through this experience, students not only gained knowledge about their chosen topics, but also discovered more about themselves. The project encouraged them to develop important life skills such as time management, communication, and relationship-building beyond the school community.

For many students, the experience sparked passions and connections that they plan to continue pursuing long after the project has ended.
