✨Creative. Linden Waldorf School is part of a global community of over 1,000 Waldorf schools on six continents. Set on a verdant twelve-acre hill in the heart of Nashville, Linden Waldorf School (the only Waldorf school in Tenn

essee) serves children from early childhood to grade eight. Our teachers are committed to developing students' intellectual flexibility, independent judgment and moral courage. Waldorf educators work with the conviction that childhood is sacred; that children learn naturally when the curriculum meets their developmental needs; that children's imaginations need to be nurtured and protected; and that students should be engaged through active, curious participation in their learning. Our faculty emphasizes the importance of children's finding joy in learning and experiencing wonder and awe in the world around them.

Ten days into the new school year, and Linden Waldorf is already alive with learning.

Hands in the garden, discovering how things grow. Music fills the room as students play together. Laughter in the hallways, and quiet moments of deep concentration as children make things with their own two hands — wet felting in handwork, carving wooden spoons in woodworking, and blending colors in wet-on-wet watercolor painting. No right answer, just discovery.

This is what it looks like when kids are truly immersed — not just sitting through a lesson, but living it.

Exploring. Creating. Playing.

Out of these everyday moments, something lasting takes root: curiosity that doesn't quit, strengths they didn't know they had, and a growing sense of responsibility for themselves and each other.

This is the first ten days. Just wait and see what the rest of the year brings. 🌱

Before it was Linden Waldorf, before it even had a permanent home, it was a handful of Nashville parents and teachers gathered at St. David’s Episcopal Church, chasing an idea they’d only just discovered.

Cindy Turner, Early Childhood Pioneer Teacher, was one of them and nearly thirty years later, as she retires (again), she sat down with Laura Duke, Director of Alum Relations & Outreach, to reflect on how a study group of families turned into a school, what it meant to watch her own granddaughters walk the halls she helped build, and what she hopes for Linden’s next thirty years.

It’s a conversation about roots, patience, and trusting a process.

Ms. Portillo, the 8th grade teacher, does it again with her beautiful chalk drawing, this time depicting Paul Revere's Ride for the 8th grade block on Revolutionary History.

Throughout the school year, teachers bring their classrooms to life with chalkboard drawings. In a Waldorf classroom, these drawings aren't just there to illustrate a lesson, they help set a mood for the lesson.

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! This morning, we celebrated our 20th Rose Ceremony, an annual tradition at Waldorf Schools.

The Rose Ceremony symbolizes a celebration in which eighth-graders welcome first-graders to the Grades program.

This buddy relationship will continue throughout the year, with the 8th graders guiding their younger buddies and setting an example for them. It culminates on the last day of school, when the 1st graders give the 8th graders roses to send them off to high school.

We've started a Substack, and we're kicking things off with a letter from Molly Campbell, an alum of Linden Waldorf's very first graduating class (2007), where she reflects on what it meant to her to attend a Waldorf school.
