Congratulations to Student Health Ambassador Batoul Sawas (MTSU) for receiving the Undergraduate Student Poster Competition Award — the highest honor given to an undergraduate presenter at the Xavier University of Louisiana Health Disparities Conference.
Batoul was recognized through a rigorous judging process for her outstanding research presentation, where she served as both the first author and presenting author. Her research explored mental health, with a focus on anxiety and depression, and demonstrated strong scientific inquiry and thoughtful analysis of factors that influence health outcomes.
Even more exciting — Batoul is the first student from Middle Tennessee State University to receive this prestigious award 👏
This recognition reflects her excellence in undergraduate research and her growing impact in the fields of public health and health equity. We are incredibly proud of her work and leadership!

We’re proud to see Catrice Grigsby, a three-year Student Health Ambassador from Middle Tennessee State University, featured in this recent interview discussing the upcoming Black Girls in S.T.E.A.M. Summit hosted by Meharry Medical College.
Catrice’s journey reflects exactly what the HBCU Wellness Project strives to cultivate—students who are passionate about science, committed to serving their communities, and ready to lead in spaces where representation matters. Through her research and work with the program, she has gained hands-on experience addressing health disparities while strengthening her path in STEAM.
It’s inspiring to see her voice included in this important conversation about mentorship, access, and building pathways for the next generation of Black women in science, technology, engineering, arts, and medicine.
👏 Congratulations, Catrice! We’re excited to see all that you continue to accomplish.
