We are celebrating OT Month all of April! OTA students hosted a "Guess the Adaptive Equipment?" booth on campus last week.

OT practitioners can work with clients in utilizing adaptive equipment. Adaptive equipment can increase a client's independence in daily occupations. Some of those activities may include handwriting, dressing, bathing, combing/brushing hair, oral hygiene, feeding/eating skills, and more!

April is Occupational Therapy month!

Hear from some OTA students on why they chose the profession and their description of OT!

"Life is like competing in an obstacle course, but sometimes there are barriers that make it feel impossible to complete. Maybe you’re wearing a blind fold, your feet are tied together, the hurdles are too high, the crowd is too noisy, or you can’t seem to determine where the course starts and ends. Occupational therapy helps identify the specific barriers you’re facing and works with you to determine the best way for you to complete that challenging part of the obstacle course.

The field of occupational therapy initially intrigued me since it focuses on helping individuals do the activities that matter most to them. It turns “I can’t” into “I can” by making changes to the environment, a piece of equipment, or through other techniques so an individual can successfully participate in a way that works specifically for them. I’ve always enjoyed problem-solving and connecting with individuals through their stories. Working in occupational therapy will allow me to utilize these skills to improve the lives of others coming from a wide variety of backgrounds and life experiences".

April is Occupational Therapy month!

Hear from some OTA students on why they chose the profession and their description of OT!

“I chose the field of OT because my dad suffered a spinal cord injury and I saw first hand the impact OT had on helping him recover. I saw my dad sit and watch his family and friends continue on with their occupations and anything that brought them joy while he was bound to a wheelchair.”
“I would describe Occupational Therapy like this: Imagine you are frozen, watching everyone around you participate in everyday activities that bring them joy and make them happy. It is our job in the field of OT to put heat to that solid ice and break away the frozen barriers that are stopping you from participating in everyday activities that make you happy. No matter what those barriers look like or what route we may take to achieve those goals, OT can make it possible to resume your occupations with the most independence possible.”
