Today, August 23, 2026 Louise, Denise, Vanessa and Mike setup the Howard County Master Gardeners’ Booth at the County Fair Exhibition Building.

Our project this year is the Cold Frame! A cold frame is an unheated, bottomless box with a transparent roof (glass or plastic) that acts as a mini-greenhouse. It traps solar heat during the day and protects plants from frost, wind, and snow to extend the growing season. The project shows how just about any one can construct a COLD FRAME for themselves and improve the quality of the food they eat throughout the year!

Today August 18, 2026 Dawson, Mike and Vanessa constructed the Cold Frame that will be the main exhibit at our MG Booth at the Howard County Fair next week. It took us about 4 hours to buy all the materials for all the Cold Frames, construct the Fair Cold Frame in 101 degree weather! Vanessa’s Barn provided shade, electricity, water, and storage for the rest of the materials.
Will still need to finish building the actual Cold Frames at a later date hopefully we will have more help! Don’t forget we are setting up our Fair Booth this weekend!!!

We did warm up exercises and made a few laps around the Farmer’s Market pavilion. It was fun!

The students painted hanging baskets, to plant next week, as a gift for Mother's Day. They also made concrete mushrooms to include in the baskets. 🪴🍄

Thanks to volunteers Rebecca, Diane, Pam, Kathy, and Charles. Master Gardeners Reada, Naomi and Sandy helped a little!!!👍🏼
