Your song can be technically great and still not connect … šŸšØšŸ‘€šŸŽ¶āœšŸ»

The rhyme works. The melody works.
The story makes sense. The emotion is clear.

But the listener understands what you’re feeling without actually FEELING it themselves…
That’s the difference šŸ‘€

Sometimes, as songwriters, we’re so close to our own story that we over-explain it.
We tell the listener:

I’m heartbroken. I miss you. I’m lonely.
I’m falling in love. I’ve moved on. I’m happy now…

But connection often happens when we stop explaining the emotion and start giving the listener something they can experience.

Instead of:
ā€œI still miss you every night.ā€

Maybe it’s:
ā€œI still sleep on my side of the bed.ā€

Suddenly, you didn’t have to tell us what you’re feeling.
We already know.
Because we can SEE it.
And more importantly…
we can put our own person in that empty space.

(Inside Song Pros, we call this ā€œSHOW DONT TELLā€ … and we teach you how to do just that as your coaches!)

And that is one of the beautiful paradoxes of songwriting:
The more honestly you tell YOUR story, the more opportunity someone else has to find theirs inside it.

Specific doesn’t have to mean exclusive.
Personal doesn’t have to mean inaccessible.
And universal doesn’t have to mean vague.

The goal isn’t to write a song that could belong to everybody.
It’s to write your song so truthfully that everybody can find a little piece of themselves inside it.

Write your story. Leave room for theirs šŸŽ¶āœšŸ¼

Dear Songwriter,
Stop comparing your chapter 2
to someone else’s chapter 20.

You hear the song they released.
You didn’t hear the 200 songs they wrote before anyone cared.

You see the cuts.
The streams.
The publishing deal.
The effortless-looking hooks…
You didn’t see the years they spent writing songs that never left the worktape.

The awkward co-writes, melodies that went nowhere, lyrics they rewrote ten times, the seasons where they wondered if they were even good enough to keep going….
And yet, you’re using the evidence of their experience
as proof of your inadequacy.

Your early songs aren’t evidence that you’re behind.
They’re evidence that you’re becoming.

Keep writing. Your story is still getting good.

Verse = information.
Chorus = revelation.

I know I know… you felt it all so deeply when writing.
We love it! That’s a beautiful beginning!

BUT… your emotion needs to be the starting point… your SKILL is what will allow the LISTENER to feel that emtion too.

FEELING an emotion & CREATING AN EMOTIONAL EXPERIENCE IN YOUR SONG are 2 VERY DIFFERENT THINGS.

I know I know, you don’t want to hear it but I have to tell you because moving others is a craft you CAN learn & as a songwriter SHOULD learn.

Good news: We can teach youšŸŽ¶āœØšŸ™ŒšŸ»

One of the biggest myths in songwriting is that people plateau because they run out of inspiration or they aren’t talented enough.

But, in reality, MOST writers plateau because they accidentally become predictable.

They discover a melody shape that works…
A lyric style they’re comfortable with…
A chord progression they can write in their sleep…
And then they spend years polishing the same skill set instead of expanding it.
Growth gets replaced with repetition!

Here’s the beautiful part:
A plateau isn’t a sign to quit.
It’s an invitation to get curious again.
Learn a new melody technique.
Analyze a song that makes you feel something.
Write in a genre you’ve never touched.
Co-write with someone who challenges you.
Ask for honest and professional feedback instead of comfortable feedback… and Song Pros can help and is helping growing, hungry songwriters with all of this šŸ™ŒšŸ¼

The fact is … Every great songwriter you admire is still learning and pushing themselves!
The best writers don’t protect their ego… They protect their curiosity!
Because the moment you think you’ve mastered songwriting, you STOP becoming a better songwriter šŸ›‘

Your chorus doesn’t need more words…
It needs more focus 🧠✨
