It's been several years since this mom/son Duo went diving. After a scuba refresher course, they are ready for some epic dives in the Caribbean. When was your last scuba dive?

Jacob came to me with one goal: become a better diver.

Not to collect another certification card. Not to chase a deeper dive. Just to master the fundamentals.

Three days of focused coaching, repetition, and honest feedback led to this.

Stable buoyancy. Horizontal trim. Efficient frog kick. Calm, controlled movement through the water.

This isn't luck or natural ability—it's the result of building solid fundamentals one skill at a time.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for divers who invest in becoming more capable, not just more certified.

The new giant underwater chess board at Pennyroyal is a big hit! It's a great way to practice precision buoyancy, backwards kicks and horizontal trim. I can help you with all of those things, but don't ask for chess advice... I'm more of a checkers guy 😊

I had a blast working with this father and son team last week. They've got big plans for future technical dives and now they're one step closer to their goals.

They braved 3 days of 100+ degree heat in dry suits and big steel cylinders and ultimately EARNED their TDI Intro to Tech certification.

The intro to tech course isn't about diving deep. There's no gas switches or decompression stops.
It's where you invest hours upon hours in shallow water learning how to become stable, balanced, and neutral, while in horizontal trim. It's hard. Your leg muscles burn from doing hundreds of back kicks. Your thumb is shredded from using bolt snaps. You build muscle memory through repetition. You build awareness through comfort. You build the foundations you need to become a technical diver.

Congratulations to Matt on earning his Open Water Diver certification!

After several hours in the pool, we spent 326 minutes underwater over Seven dives.

Those numbers tell the real story. Matt wanted more than a certification—he wanted the confidence and skills to be a truly competent diver.

The minimum standard is only 60–80 minutes underwater. I don't teach to the minimum. I teach until you're ready.

Congrats, Matt. Welcome to the underwater world.

I'm not rich, but I do keep enough 18/45 banked to fill balloons for special occasions.
