๐ Friday Spotlight: Life Beyond the Classroom! ๐
Teaching in the United States through the J-1 Teacher Exchange Program is about so much more than the classroom.
While making a difference in the lives of their students every day, our international teachers also have the opportunity to experience American culture, build lifelong friendships, and enjoy activities within their local communities. From community events to sports leagues and weekend adventures, the cultural exchange experience extends far beyond the school day!
These photos showcase one of our teachers enjoying local pickleball tournaments and connecting with fellow community members while pursuing their professional journey in the United States.
At GEC, we believe that cultural exchange is at the heart of the J-1 Teacher Programโcreating meaningful experiences for both teachers and the communities they serve.

๐ชโจ ONE TEACHER, MANY DOORS โจ๐ช
What started as one teacherโs dream became an opportunity for many others to follow.
In 2021, Filipino educator Louie Lipa arrived in Oakland, California through the Teach USA J-1 Teacher Program under GEC sponsorship. Through dedication, resilience, and excellence in the classroom, he became the first Filipino international educator hired by his district โ opening the door for more than 30 international teachers who followed after him. ๐ต๐ญ๐๐บ๐ธ
From Teacher of the Year recognition, mentoring future educators, leading cultural initiatives, and impacting countless students, Louieโs story reminds us that one opportunity can truly change lives.
