More on the course:
As St. Paul has been read over the long history of Christian theology, he is perhaps most famous for his doctrine of justification by faith, or if not precisely his doctrine of justification, a doctrine for which his readers assume he is responsible. Justification, one of Martin Luther’s followers memorably said, is “the article by which the church stands or falls.” Whether this is so, it is surely a doctrine over which the church has been arguing for some time. One unhappy but almost inevitable consequence is that Paul’s rich and multi-faceted vision of salvation in Christ is too frequently supposed to be (a certain account of) justification without remainder. In this course, we will consider Paul’s more capacious account of salvation, including but beyond his “doctrine of justification,” in order to revel in the fullness of life granted those united to Christ.

We have a fantastic lineup of courses coming January 2027.

The Rev. Dr. Ephraim Radner (Professor Emeritus of Historical Theology at Wycliffe College) and the Rev. Dr. Annette Brownlee (Professor Emerita of Pastoral Theology at Wycliffe) will co-teach Catechesis: Teaching the Faith for Discipleship during the week of January 18-22, 2027.

This course will introduce students to the theology and practice of catechesis—teaching the Christian faith, primarily to adults. Through inductive study of historical and contemporary catechisms, students will examine the motives, content, and methods of faith teaching, with special attention to today’s cultural climate, where the church’s authority is increasingly limited.

The course explores the relationship between catechesis, discipleship, and faith formation, and considers the challenges facing Christian teachers in missionary and congregational contexts.

A group of our students is having the experience of a lifetime this week at St Albans Cathedral participating in "If These Stones Could Sing."

Led by Dr. Geoffrey Williams and Dr. Lauren Whitnah, this seminar focuses on the history and development of Anglican church music.

Carolee Schoen, our registrar and a participant in the course, reports from the UK:

"I feel so privileged to be singing in the oldest site of continuous worship in Britain with a group of people from all over the country. This experience has been rich in beauty, worship, sacred music, knowledge of saints and history, and friendships that will continue long after we leave one another. Having a pint or two together in more than one 300-year-old pub has made it so."

St. Thomas Church - Menasha, WI, led by alumnus Fr. Andy Cruz Lillegard, is serving their community after a tornado caused widespread damage in the Menasha and Appleton communities this week.

“It’s still chaos,” Lillegard said. “But what we’ve noticed is people pitching in to help one another.”
