There is something so special about a group mural. It shows the kids that something big, bold, and beautiful can come out of working together. This week at galaxy camp, we focused the mural on the solar system, with each child choosing the planet they wanted to help paint. We made sure to hang up the finished piece in the studio so that the kids could admire their handiwork. It turned out beautifully!

It’s so fun to see how kids interpret a prompt in the studio. These 🐈‍⬛s were inspired by German artist Paul Klee’s Bird and Cat painting. I just love how both a heart and a bird made it in there as creative ideas for a nose!

Many times the best sounds in the studio are the ones where I hear kids saying, “I’ll help you with that,” or “I like what you made,” “you can have some mine” and “you can sit by me”. These kind words and gestures demonstrate that the kids are thinking about other people and they care about their feelings, they matter, they are seen. They are also communicating inclusion, you are part of the group.
Recently, I purchased this beautiful artwork from Kathryn Pannepacker when I saw it displayed at Cane&Rush Woven Seat Repair . I was initially drawn by the image of the chair and the strong patterned background, when I read the title, “I Saved A Chair For You.” ♥️ It reminded me of the kind words of the children, showing that they care how other people feel and that they are included. I knew I had a perfect place for that piece of art.

We offer an entire camp week focused on clouds! Clouds in all their shapes, sizes, and dreamscapes. This collage cloud project doesn’t require much – cardboard, cut paper, beads for the handles and ribbons to finish them – and it results in such a special and whimsical piece you’ll want to hang up year round.

We use a variety of grids with little ones to help provide a blank template for them to practice their sewing skills and make something fun. No matter what, they all turn out completely differently!

At Sky Soup, we don’t just paint pottery, we make pottery! We believe even younger kids can get on the pottery wheel and we encourage them to do so. While it can be tricky at first, it brings such confidence and strength when they master it!
