Soaring Arts Studio

Soaring Arts Studio The items sold in the Soaring Arts Studio store are the result of the process of our artists discovery of talents and tastes.

Welcome to Soaring Arts Studio, a program of Filling Homes, where People of All Abilities are Empowered to Explore their Talents and Express themselves through the Arts. Soaring Arts Studio is a vibrant and inspiring place where artists of all abilities are encouraged to explore their talents and express themselves through the arts! In the studio, one of the things that the artists are able to do

is hand paint fabric using a variety of adapted painting techniques that were learned from renowned art therapist, Patty Mitchell. After a two-week artist-in-residency program funded through a grant by the Ohio Arts Council, many people served by Filling Homes' adult day services discovered their artistic sides. One artist may enjoy painting solid colors on canvas while another may like adding touches of detail to those solid pieces. Still another may want to spend time drawing designs or embroidering. In this collaborative process, the art studio participants, staff and often community members work together to create unique, quality, handcrafted merchandise. Original drawings/designs are used. These designs can then be duplicated and transferred onto the painted fabric that is cut out and used to create appliqués. These designs are then hand-stitched onto painted foundation pieces that are used to create tote bags, hot pads, drink coasters, greeting cards, quilted blankets, wall hangings, etc. What started out as art exploration has grown into a blossoming enterprise that offers the more than 40 people who participate in Soaring Arts to learn valuable job skills, while doing something they love. Studio Artists have now gone from all collaborative work to also creating individual works in all mediums of art. Studio participants are involved in all aspects of the business. This includes creation of art, exhibits, teaching the community art, customer service, maintaining our website, photographing products, sales, production and even shopkeeping. All proceeds from the sale of these items go to compensating our artists through commission and to supporting their art program.

“WEDNESDAY NIGHTS @ SOARING ARTS” BEGIN A WEEK FROM TONIGHT!
This is what’s going on in week 1!
All of the below activities are free!
——-

Join us for our first Open Studio night on Wednesday, September 2nd from 4-7!

There will be FREE activities going on at both Soaring Arts and Studio Express!

You are welcome to come for one or stay for all of the events! This night, we are creating things in line with our “A House…A Home Fundraiser.”

Here’s what the afternoon will look like:

-Studio Express and Emilee Schwiebert will have all the supplies set up for you to explore and get creative building your very own cardboard houses! We will then display them and awards will be presented!

-Soaring Arts Studios will be open as well with a couple of different activities going on:
1.) We will be starting to work on a large “House” mural this night. This will be designed by Soaring Arts and painted as a community collaboration! Once completed, it will become one of our 2026 Pocket Park Murals!
2.)We will be decorating bags with encouraging messages/drawings and then packaging toiletry items for Together We Can Make a Difference Initiatives! These bags will be distributed to those in our community who are in need.
3.) Soaring Arts will also be collecting toiletry items to donate to Together We Can Make a Difference Initiatives!

There is no registration required and all of these activities are free! Join as we get creative!

4A Creative Design recently commissioned a “house” for the “A House…A Home Fundraiser” (supporting Together We Can Make A Difference, Pillars of Success and Salvation Army.) They requested the piece to be a depiction of some of the downtown buildings.

So, the first step in this process was that Bobby and Mary (our Artists who love this type of challenge) went to work doing some Plein Air drawings of the buildings, as seen from Pocket Park!

Next, Dom cut their building shapes out of wood.

Now, we transfer and begin to paint and detail!

Then, this piece will eventually become public art downtown, while also providing a months’ rent for someone in need of transitional housing! How amazing is that?!

We are thankful to be a part of a community that cares! (There is more info about the fundraiser on our page or stop by and check out the houses we have available in the downtown window display.)

During our Procreate digital art class this week, Tara, Jen and Amanda Goheen made some really fun stickers!

They turned out great, and even beyond that, there is something super awesome about seeing your art as a sticker! Stickers just make us happy, and then when you make them out of custom artwork, and learn something new in the process, it’s like the icing on the cake!!
Good job ladies! 👏🏼👏🏼
