🚒🔥 Learning Beyond the Studio!

Our Philo learners took learning into the real world with a visit to our local fire department! 👩‍🚒🧑‍🚒

From exploring the fire trucks and equipment to learning how firefighters prepare, respond, and serve our community, our learners got an up-close look at what courage, teamwork, responsibility, and service look like in action.

A huge THANK YOU to our local firefighters for welcoming our learners, answering their many questions, and showing us what it means to care for a community. ❤️🚒

🧱 20 KAPLAs. 12 Challenges. Endless Possibilities.💡

Today’s Crew Build Challenge put our learners’ creativity, problem-solving, and perseverance to work! With just 20 KAPLA blocks, learners tackled a series of 12 building challenges, thinking, testing, adjusting, and trying again.

No step-by-step instructions. No “right” way to build. Just a challenge and the freedom to figure it out.

At Philo, we believe some of the best learning happens when learners are given the opportunity to think for themselves, experiment with ideas, and discover what they’re capable of creating. 🌱

PHILO EXPERIENCE: POLYMER CLAY WORKSHOP

Our next Philo Experience is getting creative! Join us and The Wild Ivy for a hands-on polymer clay workshop!

Participants will learn a polymer clay technique and create their choice of a bookmark, keychain, or backpack charm!

WILD + FREE 🌿☀️

Running. Laughing. Exploring. Imagining. Being kids.

At Philo, Wild + Free is more than “free time.” It’s time intentionally protected for learners to move, play, explore, connect, create their own games, and simply follow where their curiosity takes them.

Educational philosopher John Dewey believed that education isn’t just preparation for life, education is life itself. Children learn through experience: by doing, discovering, interacting, experimenting, and making sense of the world around them.

Sometimes learning looks like reading a book or solving a math problem.

And sometimes it looks like running full speed across the grass with your friends. 🌱

We believe learners need space to be learners and children need space to be children.

No assignment.
No expected outcome.
No adult directing every moment.

Just the freedom to play, choose, connect, imagine, and discover.

Because at Philo, learning is alive, and sometimes the most meaningful learning happens when we simply give children the freedom to be wild + free. 💛

🥚🦆 DUCK EGG SCRAMBLE! 🐓🍳

Today at Philo, our learners turned farm chores into a hands-on lesson in teamwork, kitchen skills, observation, and animal care.

Learners collected fresh duck eggs, compared them to chicken eggs, practiced cracking and whisking, and watched what happened as the eggs transformed from liquid to solid.

After letting their scramble cool completely, it was time for the best part...

Treat time for the flock!

At Philo, even making scrambled eggs can become an opportunity to investigate, create, collaborate, and care for the animals that share our learning environment.

NEW PHILO EXPERIENCE: MICROGREENS WORKSHOP!

We’re excited to partner with JusTeeny's Greenies for a hands-on Microgreens Workshop at Philo Learning Collective!

Kids ages 10+ will get their hands dirty while learning how to plant, grow, care for, harvest, and enjoy their own microgreens. Each participant will plant their own microgreens and take home a complete growing kit and care guide so the learning can continue at home.
