The Youth Leadership Institute had a wonderful day completing their community service project at an assisted living facility in Naples!

Our talented youth leaders played piano during lunch, placed handmade spring wreaths on resident doors, and served residents at a fun ice cream sundae bar. After serving, they sat with seniors, enjoying sundaes and meaningful conversations together.

It was a beautiful day filled with kindness, service, laughter, and connection. We are so proud of our leaders for leading with compassion and making a positive impact in our community!

The ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.®, Alpha Beta Epsilon Omega Chapter, gathered for a beautiful day of sisterly relations, fellowship, and faith during our Salad Extravaganza and church service.

From sharing delicious dishes to strengthening our sisterly bond and worshiping together, the day was filled with love, laughter, and unity. Moments like these remind us that sisterhood is the heart of all we do.

Stronger together. Rooted in service. United in sisterhood.

We are incredibly proud of our Youth Leadership Institute for their heartfelt community service project!

Our young leaders lovingly prepared beautiful wreaths for doors, sun catchers for windows, handmade bookmarks, and thoughtful “Thinking of You” cards to take to an assisted living facility in Naples and help brighten the days of seniors in our community.

Their kindness, creativity, and willingness to serve are a true reflection of leadership in action. Small gestures of love can make a big difference, and these students are showing what it means to lead with compassion and purpose.

We are so proud of our leaders for using their talents to spread joy, encouragement, and connection. The future is bright because of young hearts like these!

A special thank you to Chick-fil-A Naples for their generous lunch donation and for supporting our students and this meaningful day of service. Your kindness helped make this project even more special!

We proudly spotlight ABEO member Bessie Brown, one of the first Black students to enter Mississippi State University in 1967, a time of great turbulence in Mississippi and across the South.

Entering Mississippi State University was not easy. It required courage, determination, and an unshakable belief in self. Despite real fears for her safety, Ms. Bessie knew she had earned her place. She made the grades. She met the standards. She deserved to be there.

Coming from a traditional Black high school with limited resources, no new textbooks until 11th grade and no access to the public library, she still found a way to excel. An avid reader, she studied anything she could get her hands on, proving that brilliance is not limited by circumstance.

While at Mississippi State University, she continued to break barriers, becoming:

• The first Black copy editor of the student newspaper
• The first Black Resident Assistant
• The first Black cashier in Starkville

Her story is one of resilience, excellence, and quiet courage. Because she pushed forward, doors opened for those who followed.

We honor you, Ms. Bessie. Your legacy still speaks.

Our Youth Leadership Institute hosted a powerful cultural awareness session, featuring presenters from Kenya, Guyana, and Haiti. Youth sampled foods and drinks from around the world and proudly took home Kenyan made accessories (wraps, bow ties, hair ties, and clips) created by Ms. Wambui. Such an empowering experience!
