I know, I know: the lighting sucks LOL!

It's been a while since I sat down to tangle. I am out attending a 3-day convention. Lighting in the room is not ideal, but I won't let that stop me from crossing Day 1 off my list!

I feel rusty, but I feel great. It feels like I dusted off the old service jeep in Jurassic Park. Or when Narsil was reforged into Anduril in Fellowship of the Ring. With all doubt in my head, all I really had to do was just do it one stroke at a time.

I am excited to see what this whole month will bring. Trusting the process, including trusting myself again 😊

Legacies are not just built by those who create, but those who believed.

May we create and believe in the beauty of our own creation.

When Johanna “Jo” van Gogh married Theo van Gogh, she couldn’t have imagined she’d change art history. Within two years, both her husband and his brother Vincent were gone—one to illness, the other to despair.

Left a widow at 28 with an infant son and hundreds of unsold paintings by a little-known artist, Jo could’ve walked away. Vincent had sold almost nothing during his lifetime. Critics had dismissed him. To most, the paintings were worthless.

But Jo saw more than just canvas and paint—she saw Vincent’s soul in every brushstroke. She read his letters, filled with hope, suffering, and passion, and knew his story had to be told.

She moved back to the Netherlands, ran a boarding house to survive, and began quietly organizing exhibitions. More importantly, she shared the letters between Vincent and Theo—revealing a mind full of brilliance, not madness. Slowly, the world began to listen.

In 1905, Jo curated the first major Van Gogh retrospective in Amsterdam. It changed everything. Critics reevaluated him. Museums began acquiring his work. His name spread far beyond Europe.

Today, Vincent van Gogh is one of the most celebrated artists in history. But it was Jo who made that possible. Her quiet resolve turned obscurity into immortality. Without her, the world may have never seen Starry Night or Sunflowers. Her story reminds us: legacies are often built not just by those who create—but by those who believe.

In Zentangle, every line, dot, and curve is a commitment to the present moment. No judgment, no mistakes—just movement.

I’m learning to extend the same grace to myself. Even when I freeze, even when the deadline looms and the overwhelm creeps in, I remind myself:

I am not a machine.
I am a woman in motion.
My pace is enough.

Today, I choose to keep moving, one small stroke at a time.

Some days, the win is simply picking up the pen. In the rhythm of pen and breath, we find our way back. Seemingly messy lines, clear heart. Tangling again.

As women, we juggle so many roles—leaders, caregivers, professionals, nurturers, dreamers—that we often forget to pause and breathe. This International Women’s Month, let’s reclaim time for ourselves through the power of art, creativity, and self-reflection.

Join us at Beyond the HER-izon on March 15, 2025, at in partnership with , for a Zentangle workshop, where we’ll slow down, unwind, and reconnect with our creativity. Zentangle is a meditative art form that helps us relax, refocus, and embrace the beauty of the present moment—no artistic experience needed!

Beyond our session, there will be a community mural painting with Anina Rubio, and an affirmation workshop with Fritz Obias.
