Our Story: (In case you're not familiar with us)

During the pandemic, I had a lot of free time on my hands, like most of us in quarantine. I expressed my feelings of boredom and loneliness to my best friend from college who lives near Tampa. She turned me on to a new hobbie--- raising Monarch Butterflies!!! She explained the process and gave me everything I needed to get started. Within a few weeks, I was visited by several beautiful Monarchs who came by and laid their eggs on my plants. Soon after, baby caterpillars emerged and eventually grew and turned into butterflies!! I fell in love with this hobbie for so many reasons--- watching a living creature grow into something beautiful that I have directly impacted, the fascinating process of how the caterpillar spins it's cocoon and later transforms into a magnificent butterfly, helping the environment (as Monarchs are at risk for being on the endangered list), and believe it or not it also helped me socially. I wanted to share this unique experience with others so I proceeded to put together "butterfly kits" for the children in the neighborhood who were also bored and isolated. There was an overwhelming response! Many of the neighbors expressed their gratitude and shared pictures of their children joyously releasing their butterflies into the wild! I was elated. Suddenly more and more people (local teachers and day cares) began contacting me and asking for butterfly kits. This is how Monarch Mama of SWFL came to be! Once Monarch Mama was created, I started sharing this experience with my clients as well. I have seen the butterfly project help clients reduce symptoms such as sadness, loneliness and dysthymia associated with with depression, anxiety, grief and loss among other conditions. Monarch Mama would like to send a HUGE thanks to Amanda Phantom for donating a Monarch Chrysalis (and others cats) this weekend so that a beautiful Monarch was able to be released in Apollo Beach to honor a victim of Covid-19 at a Celebration of Life. Thank you Amanda!!! ❤🙏🦋
