Curriculum
The language program we use is Primary Phonics. This method does an excellent job at simply and systematically introducing young students to phonemic reading and writing. Both their readers and their workbooks are exceptionally well thought out and engaging for the children. Besides learning to read and write, students will be read to daily from a variety of linguistically rich classical poetry and prose. They will learn to recite poems and give oral presentations. For math we use the highly respected Singapore Math program. In addition, we may use Montessori and other hands-on materials to help demonstrate concepts as needed. We also integrate math into cooking, farm projects, etc. Our students learn science through hands on experiences on our farm, as well as several weekly science experiments in the classroom. For social science, this year's curriculum includes the seven continents, world history from ancient civilizations through Roman Empire, and individual research projects on countries of the students' choice. Arts and crafts projects are also offered weekly, as is music appreciation and recorder. Additional activities may be offered based on the students' interests. Homework
Students in our full time program receive no homework, other than a few minutes of daily reading. Students attending part time develop their own plan of study on an individual basis.
