Checkmate! Congratulations to Ferson Creek student Dylan for becoming an Illinois State Chess Champion! 🎉♟️🏆
At this year’s two-day Illinois K-8 State Chess Tournament, where nearly 700 chess players competed, Dylan won first place in his division.

Dylan played four games on day one of the tournament and went undefeated. On day two, he won his next two games. Of the 214 players in his section, he was the only one undefeated going into the final, seventh round of the tournament. He drew (tied) his last game, ending the tournament with 6.5 out of 7 points, earning first place, and the State Champion title for the 4th/5th grade division!
At the end of this month, Dylan will compete in the K-12 National Tournament in Chicago, and then in April, he will compete in the "invitation-only" ICA Youth Chess Invitational.

We never think it’s too early to introduce chess. With our boys, it started with something simple—learning how to take turns. Strategy begins long before the first move.
