FOR FEMALES INTERESTED IN STEM
Do you know female students (11th/12th/College Freshmen) who have interest in topics such as Cybersecurity, AI, Economics, or STEM? The email below can be shared with any students who may be interested in applying to be part of a national cohort to receive free training in national security related issues, and a $350 stipend. Unfortunately, the applications are due by the end of Sunday, so don’t delay in spreading the word! Here are the details, provided by Jane Pak, a senior at UIUC who helps lead this training program.
*************
Are your students passionate about Cybersecurity, AI, Economics, or STEM? The Girl Security National Fellows Program offers a unique opportunity for them to explore these fields, gain valuable networking connections, develop leadership skills, and acquire knowledge in areas rarely taught in high school.
My name is Jane Pak, and I’m the Program Assistant of Learning & Training at Girl Security. We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to diversifying the national security workforce by creating pathways for girls, women, and gender minorities to pursue careers in national security. As we often say at Girl Security, “girls and women are taught to fear everything, yet secured from nothing.” They are uniquely qualified to lead in security, but the world is often deprived of their perspectives.
Through our National Fellows program, we aim to provide participants with the knowledge, skills, and networks to adapt and advance through national security pathways across government, business, technology, and more. We are currently recruiting interested applicants to apply for our National Fellows - the only youth-centered program in the nation that trains participants on structured analytics while building a diverse and multidisciplinary set of critical thinking, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills to equip them for their futures. In addition, this program provides a host of wrap-around services including an earned stipend, cohort-based mentoring, community building, and access to corporate partner advancement opportunities.
In addition to technical and leadership training, the program offers a stipend, cohort-based mentoring, community building, and access to corporate partner opportunities. Whether students are interested in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, civil service, or business, our program is designed to support their diverse career aspirations. Our Workforce Development Programs have a 99% completion and referral rate, and over 75% of our alumni have secured pathway opportunities after graduation.
The application form is now live and Interested applicants can apply here by Sunday, September 22nd, 2024. Interested applicants can also watch a recording of our info session to learn more about our work and our National Fellows program.
We are more than happy to share additional information and resources and answer any questions you may have about our program. You can contact me at [email protected].
Thank you,
Jane Pak

The ACT helps your students stand on common ground.
Colleges don’t just take ACT scores at face value; they also consider them in the context in which they were achieved. If you have students who are discouraged from applying to top schools because they think test scores will hold them back, reach out to them now.
The universities returning to test required admissions all sound a common alarm: the students who would benefit most from submitting scores are the same as the ones withholding them.
Talented students are missing opportunities of a lifetime.
Don't let them falter so close to the next springboard.
Registration Starts Here
Friday, August 9 is the last day to register for the September 14 ACT without late fees.

Naperville Police Accepting Applications for Fall 2024 Citizen Police Academy
Interactive 10-week course begins Sept. 18, 2024
NAPERVILLE, Ill. — The Naperville Police Department is now accepting applications for a 10-week Citizen Police Academy (CPA) to be held this fall. The academy will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024, and continue every Wednesday night until Nov. 20. Applications are due by Wednesday, Aug. 14, and will be considered in the order they are received.
Naperville’s Citizen Police Academy gives citizens insight into the inner workings of police operations, practices and objectives. Instruction consists of classroom lectures, interactive discussions and hands-on demonstrations focusing on various aspects of police work, including patrol, investigations, forensics, and special response, among others.
“CPA is an excellent opportunity for a behind-the-curtains peak at how the police department in Naperville does business,” said Police Chief Jason Arres. “The class allows residents to see what the day-to-day looks like for our personnel, and it introduces them to the many different ways we are working to protect and serve our community. If you’ve ever wondered about our policies, tactics, equipment, training or any other topic concerning policing in Naperville, you’ll learn all that and more at CPA.”
All classes are free and will be held at the Naperville Police Department, 1350 Aurora Ave., from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Course content and activities dictate that class size is limited to 24 participants. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older and must either reside or work in the City of Naperville. A criminal background check is conducted on each applicant.
Interested candidates should print and complete the Citizen Police Academy application and waiver found at www.naperville.il.us/cpa and return the signed documents no later than Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024 to Jim Pacetti by email at [email protected], at fax number (630) 305-7004, or through the mail or in person at the Naperville Police Department, 1350 Aurora Avenue, Naperville, IL 60540.
Citizen Police Academy This 10-week series of lectures, discussions and hands-on demonstrations gives participants a working knowledge of the Naperville Police Department.
