This is a bit of a rant, so I am sorry. I do my best not to complain about much, but this topic bothers me every May/June.

I don't struggle much with being an educator. I love my job and I believe I am making a difference. It's not always easy and sometimes frustrating, but I enjoy the challenge.

There is one thing I struggle with at the end of each school year, I wish everyone would stop talking about teachers having "the summer off." I hear this from friends, family, students, and even other educators. It wears on me.

Good educators do not take the summer off. It might be a little less stressful than the school year. Maybe the pace slows down, but we are still working. Many of us take on second jobs. Some of us sneak in a vacation, even though it might cost more during the summer. Most of us also begin preparing for the new school year before we even finish our last day.

Curious about what good teachers do during the summer? This article might be interesting.

49% of teachers plan to get a second job, and 76% will be working on professional development.
