👋 Welcome to Nanuet High School!

The Class of 2030 spent time in their new academic home this morning for new student orientation. Led by the guidance department and several senior volunteers, the event was an opportunity for the freshman class to reconnect with friends and find out what they can expect when they walk through the doors on Wednesday morning.

From Principal Mike Mahoney, the message was simple:

“Get engaged and do all you can to make this a good high school career.”

That message was repeated by guidance counselors, seniors, and Assistant Principal Sean Kelly.

“Do things that are going to let you embark on your next four years. Take advantage of everything the school has to offer.”

Following their time in the Global Media Center, students received an extensive tour of the building and took part in a question-and-answer session with the Grade 12 representatives.

See you on Wednesday!

🎒Fifth grade awaits! Several of A. MacArthur Barr’s newest students and their families visited the building today for an open house. The event was an opportunity for the incoming middle schoolers to tour the school, meet administrators and student leaders and get some additional practice with that tricky combination lock. Thank you to our Barr student leaders for making today a success!

The first day of school is two weeks from today! We can’t wait to welcome back all of our Golden Knights and kick off the 2026-27 school year.

🌤 Perfect summer weather is on tap for the final two days of the Nanuet Family Resource Center’s Sports and Art Camps! This morning, our young athletes picked up their rackets to play some pickleball and tennis at the high school courts. Back at Barr, art campers worked with tie-dye, papier-mâché, and paint before an outdoor activity. Thank you to the Nanuet Family Resource Center, our camp instructors and counselors, and, of course, our campers for an amazing summer program!

🍕Yum! Several of our youngest Knights made a visit to the Outdoor Education Center this morning for a lesson and lunch. After harvesting tomatoes, peppers, and basil from the OEC garden with the help of Director Nancy Galdi, students learned the differences between vegetables and fruits and the ways they are grown. But the real highlight of the visit was the pizza! Led by their teachers, these chefs in training built their very own personal pies, which were cooked in the OEC oven. Bon appétit!

🐝 The Nanuet OEC is buzzing with activity! BEElieve it or not, Nanuet students spent the morning harvesting honey alongside Outdoor Education Center Director Nancy Galdi. The honeycombs and beeswax come courtesy of the District’s beehives, located just outside the OEC garden.

These worker bees helped scrape the wax off the honeycombs before Galdi placed the wooden structures in a spinner used to extract the honey for jarring. The discarded beeswax is later used for candle making, which our third graders had an opportunity to try before heading back to Highview.

“Nothing is ever wasted with a honeybee,” Galdi reminded her beekeepers in training, especially when a bee only produces 1/12 of a teaspoon during its entire life cycle!

Especially the honey! Students got to taste several varieties of the sweet treat during their visit, including the honey produced at the OEC. After dipping their miniature spoons in the jars, students took in the smell and taste before referencing a honey flavor wheel.
