Ever wonder how to say thank you to the honey bee for all the wonderful things they do? 🙏🐝 Well this week students learned that one way we can say thanks is by creating more spaces for honey bees and other pollinators to enjoy🌻🌺. Everyone got a little messy as we made Bee Friendly Seed Balls to take home and plant in our own yards🌼🏡

Recipe for Bee Friendly Seed Balls:

1) Add 1 1/2 cups soil, 1 cup clay powder, 1 handful of bee friendly seeds (preferably native plants to your area), and 3/4 water into a bucket.

2) (Optional) Add 1 handful of coffee grounds, eggshells, and/or compost.

3) Mix it all together until a play dough consistency is reached. If you need to add water, use sparingly.

4) Roll the mixture into small balls, 1 inch diameter.

5) Plant directly into garden or in a pot.

Although disappointed to be postponing programs until further notice, we will cherish the time we were able to spend with the Leeward YMCA spring break camp. Thanks to these K-6th kiddos for tromping through rain and mud to hang out with us! We were equally excited to see our bees bursting with energy, enjoying all the beautiful flowers on the YMCA campus and beyond. Stay tuned as we develop at-home programming for families looking for educational activities!
