Breaking Chains Academy of Development, Inc. LEARN – We provide youth with alternatives to the public school education process.

Our education component allows youth to study and prepare to pass the GED requirements. LIVE – We provide youth with job skills training, using on-the-job mentoring from Academy staff or designated community volunteers. Youth will have the opportunity to learn usable skills such as welding, plumbing, electrical, Sheetrock, vinyl siding, office clerical, landscaping, painting, etc. LEAD – We provide youth with one on one mentoring to help navigate and educate our youth on the importance of education, addictions, gangs, etc. Also through the mentoring process we will be training and emphasizing for our youth to use the mentoring skills they have acquired to become mentors themselves and productive Leaders in our communities. We will also introduce youth to recreational activities which they would otherwise not be involved in, such as camping, basketball, baseball, fishing, physical training, soccer, etc.

Ethan is one of our newest students, and although we’ve only had the chance to know him for a few short weeks, he has already made great progress! He has passed two of his GED/HSE tests and continues to put in the work toward reaching his goal.

Breaking Chains girls took on the McCall mountains! A huge thank you to the beloved couple who contributed towards a special girls cabin trip to McCall.

We explored town, purchased McCall gear, ventured to North Beach, and enjoyed the beautiful cabin with a private lake! Although it was a rainy trip, we still made the most of it by making homemade soup, listening to music, playing card games, and finishing a puzzle.

This trip was an unforgettable experience for the girls who joined us. This was their first time ever visiting McCall, let alone staying in a cabin with their own rooms. We are so grateful for the opportunity to broaden the horizons for our youth. Thank you, Earnest Family! 🌲☁️ ⛓️‍💥💚

Congratulations, Synthia Araujo, on earning your GED/HSE! 🎓

Synthia came to BCAD ready to graduate and ready to take the next step toward her future. In just 10 days, she stayed focused, put in the work, and accomplished the goal she came here to achieve.

Now, Synthia is looking ahead to an exciting next chapter with plans to attend cosmetology school and pursue her goals. ✨

Last week, we celebrated Kevin Soto-Rayo as he earned his GED/HSE in just 6 DAYS! 🥳

Although we didn’t get to know Kevin for very long, we’re incredibly grateful for the time we did get to share with him. In just six days, he stayed focused, put in the work, and accomplished the goal he came to BCAD determined to achieve.

Kevin, we’re thankful we got to be part of this chapter of your journey. Six days may have been a short time, but you made them count! We’re proud of you and excited to see where this next chapter takes you. 💚⛓️‍💥

We would like to highlight our tutor and mentor, Joey. At least twice a week before school, Joey picks up a few students and takes them fishing. For many of them, this has been their first time going fishing and getting a fishing license. We are so grateful for him and his ability to help provide our youth meaningful experiences while building a trusting relationship. He is creating an impact inside and outside of the classroom.

Earlier this year, YNK Fishing generously donate fishing poles and tackle boxes and because of community support, we are able to cover the fee for their fishing licenses. It is a great pleasure to say our students now have their own fishing gear to use out in the community.

Happy birthday to Marques Ortiz! 🥳

Although Marques graduated from BCAD last year, we are so grateful that he has continued to stay close to our program and be a part of the Breaking Chains family. 💚

It has been such a privilege to watch Marques grow and to know him as he takes on this next chapter and transitions into adulthood. We are incredibly proud of the young man he is becoming and excited to see where life takes him!

Happy birthday, Marques! We hope this next year brings you new opportunities, growth, and plenty of reasons to be proud of yourself! ✨
