For nearly 20 years, I was honored to teach and lead the NNU Graduate School of Theology and to engage with gifted faculty and students who have a great heart for ministry. Even in my current role, I love connecting with those for whom our programs can better equip them for faithful service. If you already have a bachelor's degree, NNU's fully online Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry is a great way to meet all educational requirements for ordination, plus you'll earn your master's degree in the process. And these same courses can also form the core of our Master of Divinity program, so motivated students can earn their MA degree and then continue on to complete the remainder of their MDIV without skipping a beat. Today was a special day at General Assembly. The morning service brought together more than 10,000 people from around the world, not to mention all those who were streaming the service live. Dr. Graves brought a great message. Then we had the NNU Alumni and Friends Lunch where we heard from Jay and Teanna Sunberg about the work they are doing in Poland with the people who fled Ukraine when the war began in 2022. Joel Pearsall talked with Dr. Stanley Bhebhe, the Vice Chancellor from Africa Nazarene University, about the exchange program ANU has with NNU.

In the NNU booth, we had a visit with Leniza Monteiro Soares, the Africa Women Clergy Leader and a recent graduate from our Master of Arts program with a specialization in Youth, Children & Family Ministry. Leniza was not able to attend Commencement in May. When we knew she would be attending General Assembly, we brought her a few items from Commencement, including an award plaque for being the Outstanding Student in her program. Our President Joel Pearsall just happened to be in the booth when Leniza stopped by to pick up her items. He decided it would be nice to have a Commencement moment and proceeded to hand a “diploma” to Leniza for a photo opportunity as if she had just walked across the stage at Commencement. We then remembered we had the diploma cover and cap and tassel to make it even more realistic. Leniza’s family was able to be a part of this moment which made it all the more special.

Being an online student, especially one outside the United States, can at times be difficult at times. We hope this experience will show Leniza and other online students they really are part of the global NNU family.
