Ms. Martin loves reading, watching movies and TV, and traveling whenever she gets the chance!

Ms. Martin has been skydiving! Yes—you read that right! 😲

We're excited to welcome a new member of the Hawk family this year—our 6th Grade Counselor, Ms. Chipman! As our newest counselor, she's looking forward to getting to know our students, supporting families, and helping our newest Hawks have a successful transition to middle school.
🎓 How many years have you been in education?
"This is my first year as a school counselor, but I previously worked in schools for four years as a Behavior Intervention Specialist."
❤️ What do you love most about working at South?
"I just started working at South this year, but I already love working with my coworkers. They are so supportive and welcoming."
💬 What advice do you have for middle school students?
"Be willing to ask for help or ask questions. Your teachers, counselors, and administrators are here to help you be successful."
📚 What do you enjoy outside of school?
Ms. Chipman loves to read! She enjoys how books allow her to travel to other worlds through imagination. One of her favorite quotes is from Stephen King: "Books are a uniquely portable magic."
🎶 Fun fact:
Ms. Chipman played the clarinet throughout junior high and high school!

A huge thank you to all of our South Hawks families who joined us for our Ice Cream Social! We had an incredible turnout, and it was so much fun seeing students reconnect with friends, meet their teachers, and get excited for the year ahead.

💙🩶 **South Staff Spotlight: Meet Mr. Jensen!** 🩶💙

Today we're excited to introduce the counselor who works with our **8th grade students**—**Mr. Jensen!** As students prepare for high school, Mr. Jensen is there to support them academically, socially, and emotionally every step of the way.

🎓 **How many years have you been in education?**
"I've been in education for **10+ years**."

❤️ **What do you love most about working at South?**
"The people are what I enjoy most about working at South."

💬 **What advice do you have for middle school students?**
"Middle school is practice for high school. The more you apply yourself now, the easier high school will be in the future."

🎮 **What do you enjoy outside of school?**
Mr. Jensen enjoys collecting all kinds of things, including **video games, Funko Pops, and Disney collectibles**.

😲 **Fun fact:**
Mr. Jensen is the **oldest of 11 siblings!** Talk about having plenty of experience giving advice and looking out for others!

The students aren't the only ones taking on challenges this year!

South teachers officially kicked off the school year today with one very important mission: build the tallest **free-standing tower** using nothing but raw spaghetti, mini marshmallows, and clear tape. Turns out... teaching middle school might actually be easier. 😂

There were towering successes, gravity-defying failures, and plenty of laughs along the way—but one thing is certain: our staff is ready to collaborate, problem-solve, and make this school year an amazing one.

We're excited to be back in the building and can't wait to welcome our Hawks next week!

Mrs. Eilers loves traveling to explore **National Parks** and other naturally beautiful places.

🧩 **Fun fact:**
Mrs. Eilers has competed in **two team jigsaw puzzle competitions** over the past year...and won **both** of them! 🏆

As one of our bilingual staff members, Mrs. Cabello helps ensure all of our families feel welcomed and supported from the moment they walk through our doors.

Mrs. Cabello loves getting creative! Her favorite hobbies include crafting in a variety of ways.

"I love interacting with the kids and my fellow South staff!"

"Write down your class schedule in a binder that you won't lose so you don't have to come ask the office for it. Memorize your parents' phone numbers too!"
📚 What do you enjoy outside of school?
Mrs. Hadlock loves reading, hiking, traveling, and spending quality time with her family.
🌏 Fun fact:
Mrs. Hadlock recently traveled to Singapore with her husband during one of his work trips. While he was working, she explored the island on her own and had an incredible adventure!
