The Ridge Middle School The Ridge Middle School opened in the 2021-2022 school year. We have designed and implement a truly innovative educational setting for our students.

We have designed our program with the EL model to focus on three dimensions of student achievement: the mastery of knowledge and skills; robust character development; and the production of high-quality work. Our foundation is the EL Education (Expeditionary Learning) model of school design. The EL model radically reshapes the school and classroom to be a place of high-quality achievement for everyone, and where students become active members in the community committed to building a better world. When students complete their studies at our school and enter adulthood and our communities, they will be a value not just for their ability to perform on standardized tests, but for the strength of their character and the quality of their work. To accomplish this, we have designed our program with the EL model and with knowledge of adolescent development. The EL model takes as its foundation three dimensions of student achievement: the mastery of knowledge and skills; robust character development; and the production of high-quality work. Adolescent students’ brains leave them open to deep, critical thinking, as well as developing skills in goal setting, planning, and reflecting about themselves as learners. They are also becoming intensely oriented towards their peers. We have developed programs of peer-oriented, collaborative learning. The programs integrate student choice and ownership that creates higher student academic engagement.
