What Families Need to Know
Idaho created the Idaho Parental Choice Tax Credit, a new program to help families afford the education options that best meet their children’s needs.
There are some critical first steps to ensuring your family qualifies for up to $5,000 in education credits (up to $7,500 for special education).
✅ Filing your 2024 Idaho state income taxes is required to verify eligibility and issue payments. The filing deadline is November 1, 2025. https://tax.idaho.gov/taxes/income-tax/individual-income/forms/form-40/
✅ Create a Taxpayer Access Point (TAP) account. The recommended registration deadline is December 1, 2025. : https://idahotap.gentax.com/tap/_/ #1
✅ Apply for the tax credit and advance payment. The first day to apply is January 15, 2026.
✅ Families are encouraged to apply for the tax credit and advance payment. The deadline to apply is March 15, 2026.
✅ Families will be notified about whether or not they will receive a tax credit or advance payment. Notifications will begin on April 15, 2026.
