🚧 Manteo Elementary School Traffic Alert 🚧

🚧 **Traffic Alert**

There is a water main break in front of Amadas Street. Traffic is **not being diverted**, but drivers traveling northbound should use the turn lane to safely go around Public Works crews who are on scene working.

Parents coming from the north end to pick up children at MES are encouraged to use the traffic light at Harriot Street and take Wingina Avenue to the school to help avoid the affected area.

Please slow down, use caution, and allow extra time when traveling through the area. 🚗⚠️

We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Juan Castillo as the district’s Multilingual Education and Beginning Teacher Support Coordinator.

In his new role, Castillo will lead Dare County Schools’ English as a Second Language (ESL), Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program, World Languages, and provide support to the Beginning Teacher program districtwide.

Welcome, Freshmen 💛🖤!

Manteo High School’s freshmen are ready to take on high school. During their Freshmen Orientation this summer, students toured the school with members of the Student Government Association and learned what to expect for a smooth transition.

Exciting news 📣!

Dare County Schools, in partnership with Dare County Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) and Surf Pediatrics and Medicine, is launching a School-Based Urgent Care Telehealth Program for students in grades 6–12.

This pilot program provides eligible students with convenient access to urgent medical care for common illnesses and minor health concerns while remaining at school whenever possible. With assistance from the school nurse, students can connect with a licensed healthcare provider through a secure virtual visit conducted in a private location at school.

This week, we had the pleasure of bringing our entire district together for our annual Convocation! It was a day filled with connection, learning and celebration as we prepare to kick off another school year.

We also celebrated our Lighthouse Award winners, Classified Employees of the Year and Teachers of the Year, and announced our 2026 DCS Teacher and Principal of the Year!

A special thank you to the Dare Education Foundation and Thriveobx for helping us welcome our staff back with door prizes, giveaways and valuable resources.
