This past May, Rhodes McKnight & Dipak Singh, music prep students of Dr. Mario Ajero, both performed for examiners from The Royal Conservatory and earned First Class Honors with Distinction on their respective piano exams! This standing is earned by exceptional students demonstrating complete technical command and performing with a confident, masterful style. In addition to playing piano repertoire of contrasting styles, students are also evaluated on their performance in sight reading, ear tests, and playing technical exercises such as scales. Congratulations to the students for earning these certificates of distinction! 🎹

Aaron is a Midland native, SFA alum, award‑winning choir director, opera performer, community theatre music director, and even the baker behind Mr. Cookie Cake. He’s passionate about inspiring young singers and building community through the arts — and we’re so lucky to have him.

🎻 Discover the Joy of Playing a String Instrument with the award-winning SFA Strings Project! 🎶

Looking for a fun and affordable way to introduce your child to music? The SFA Strings Project is the perfect place to begin! Open to students in 3rd grade and up, this after-school program provides high-quality string instruction in a fun, encouraging environment.

✨ Students will:

Learn to play violin, viola, cello, or bass
Build strong musical foundations through hands-on instruction
Develop teamwork and confidence while making music with others
Learn from SFA music education students under the guidance of an experienced master teacher
Have opportunities to continue into more advanced ensembles as they grow

Congratulations to our former SFA String Project instructor, Caleb Moore, on his new position with Lovejoy Orchestras! We are incredibly proud of Caleb and know he will make a lasting impact on his students and the entire Lovejoy orchestra community. Wishing you all the best as you begin this exciting new chapter!

Introducing our summer programs for beginners!

Last up we have Way Cool Keyboarding:
For beginners ages 5-9, students are introduced to the joy of making music at the piano. This group environment provides many positive musical and non-musical benefits, including the development of concentration and listening skills. Camp is held in the Griffith Fine Arts Building, where each student can work on his or her own digital piano.

Are you interested in exploring the world of string instruments? Join us at our upcoming Strings Adventure Camp designed for students in grades three through eighth.

Introducing our summer programs for beginners!

First up is our Suzuki Summer Program:
Developed in Japan by violinist and educator Dr. Shinichi Suzuki (1898-1998), the Suzuki Method applies the principles of the ease in which children learn their native language toward how they learn music. Suzuki believed that all children are born with a high talent for learning if they are taught well by loving parents/guardians and teachers. SFA Music Preparatory Division's Suzuki Program offers instruction in violin for children aged 4 and older.
