General Information:

An academic program in Human Sciences has been offered at SFA since the university opened in 1923. The school has academic majors in Child Development & Family Living, Family & Consumer Sciences, Fashion Merchandising, Food, Nutrition & Dietetics, Hospitality Administration, Interior Design, and Interior Merchandising. Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees are of

fered; the B. Academic programs in Human Sciences prepare professionals who seek innovative solutions to the challenges of a contemporary society and of a changing world. The fundamental focus of the discipline is on humankind and the human condition throughout the life cycle in areas including:

human development and aging
child/family development
the science of human nutrition; nutrient needs and
dietary intake
the principles and vast dimensions of food
production/delivery
the science of textiles
the psychological, physiological, sociological and
economical aspects of apparel, fabrics, and furnishings
the environmental sciences encompassing spaces in
which humans live, work, play, socialize, and
developing to productive citizens
consumer science and resource management impacting
individuals and families
certification of teachers to impact present and future
generations of students
national/international marketing of travel and tourism
administration
lodging industry
interior design and merchandising
fashion merchandising
