🎉 South Carolina Families — This Is Big. 🎉

The South Carolina Education Scholarship Trust Fund (ESTF) is currently open for 2026–2027 applications, and The Curious Academy is an approved provider.

Here’s what that means for eligible families:

💰 $7,634 per child
Each qualifying student may receive $7,634 for the school year.

📚 Funds can be used for:
• Tuition
• Educational supplies
• Tutoring
• Transportation
• Other approved education-related expenses

👨‍👩‍👧 Who qualifies?
• South Carolina families
• Household income must not exceed 500% of the federal poverty limit (based on household size)
• Income-based eligibility

⏳ Application window is OPEN
There is no set deadline. Applications will remain open until all 15,000 scholarships are awarded.

Then I became a parent and I saw something I couldn’t unsee.

It wasn’t about intelligence.

That realization changed the way I view education forever.

I didn’t open a microschool because I wanted to try out the trend.

I opened one because I couldn’t ignore what I was seeing inside traditional classrooms:
Children who were capable… but quietly shrinking.
Children who were bright… but beginning to believe they weren’t.
Children who didn’t need “fixing” — they needed something different.

The Curious Academy didn’t start as a business plan. It started as a problem I couldn’t let go. And the answer became this school.

✨ An Update + An Announcement ✨

Over the past two years, Discovery Academy has grown into something really special—a place where children’s questions, interests, and curiosities lead the way. Learning here has always followed the child, not the system.

As the school has grown, so has the need for clarity.

This year, a large corporate charter school opened in our area with a very similar name. While their model and approach are quite different from ours, the similarity has caused understandable confusion for families in the community. Over time, what we offer—and the heart behind it—was getting lost under the umbrella of a much larger organization with significantly more reach and resources.

This name change wasn’t about wanting to be something new.
It was about being seen clearly for who we already are.

Beginning March 1st, Discovery Academy will be known as
✨ The Curious Academy ✨

Our philosophy, foundations, and approach have not changed.

Learning here is still guided by the needs, interests, and strengths of children—not the other way around. We still believe that process matters more than product, that curiosity is the starting point for meaningful learning, and that no two learners are the same.

Over the years, children’s curiosities have led us on incredible learning adventures—through nature, science, storytelling, problem-solving, and big questions about the world around them. That curiosity is at the heart of everything we do.

The name The Curious Academy reflects what we believe as educators and who we are as a school: an intentional, child-centered alternative to traditional education—one that might look a little “curious” by conventional standards, but is deeply thoughtful, research-informed, and grounded in care.
