Today, we celebrate and recognize an outstanding leader who gives so much to St. James Intermediate School and our entire school community!

Dr. Cupolo, thank you for all you do for our students, staff, and families. Your leadership, dedication, and commitment to our school make a difference every single day. Most importantly, you truly have a heart for ALL children and are committed to helping every student succeed, grow, and become the very best version of themselves.

Your passion for students, support of your staff, and belief in what is possible for every child are just a few of the many qualities that make you such an exceptional principal.

It's What's Happening Wednesday!
🦈 What's happening with the Thresher Sharks? 🦈

We have loved getting to know our Thresher sharks! We started the year with a brain activity to learn how important our brain is and how much we use it in a day. We have spent time recognizing outstanding students with our Students of the Week each Friday. We know that this year is going to be our best year yet!

In math, we are using strategies to solve multidigit multiplication problems using the traditional algorithm and area model. We created posters to compare the two methods and show that both methods get the same answer. We also learned that the area model grows with our problem and can be used easily with 1 digit, 2 digit or even 3 digit problems.

In science, we created lava lamps to compare the weight of substances before and after adding new materials! In social studies, we went back to the Industrial Revolution! We learned how mill villages were created and even got to create our own in the urban game!

In ELA, we have been learning how to identify different types of nouns and how different endings can change a noun from singular to plural. We have also been exploring figurative language and have started creating posters to remember the meaning of each type. In Reading, we have begun reading the play The Miracle of Spring, which everyone seems to be really enjoying! Each student has been assigned a part in the short play, and they have been doing a wonderful job bringing their characters to life. It has been so much fun watching their creativity shine!

Today we celebrate our phenomenal Instructional Coach, Mrs. Whitney Huffman! 🎉

Whitney is an incredible champion for our teachers and students. From mentoring teachers and analyzing student data to co-teaching lessons and building trusting, non-evaluative relationships, she continually helps strengthen instruction and support teacher growth.

We are so grateful for the passion, expertise, encouragement, and collaboration Whitney brings to St. James Intermediate each day. Thank you for helping our teachers and students make waves! 🌊🦈💙

Our custodians work hard every day to keep our school clean, safe, welcoming, and ready for our students and staff. Their dedication often happens behind the scenes, but the difference they make is seen and felt throughout our entire school community.
