Attachment is a topic for all of us. 🤝
Listen in as we talk with Dr. Nicole Wilke about attachment and its profound impact on family relationships. Dr. Wilke, a researcher, author, and marriage and family therapist, shares about attachment styles and explains how attachment shapes not just our parent-child relationships but establishes the pattern for how our children will approach all future relationships. Learn how understanding your own attachment style can break unhealthy patterns and create secure connections with your children.

What a great workshop last weekend at Church of the Apostles, Columbia with Pastor Eric Speece sharing the Connected Families framework! It is so humbling that God can use my story to come alongside others who are struggling and bring hope, grace and practical tools to move in confidence and connection! My heart is so full!

My son used to say for years and years “you only see the bad things I do you never see the good things.“
It’s so easy and natural to focus on what is not going well and what needs fixed, especially in our kids behavior.
The ABCs of affirmation were really a tool that helped my husband and I to look for what was going well.
Honestly, my son doesn’t say that anymore.

The ABCs of affirmation are one of my favorite tools! Feels awkward at first, but really does go so much deeper than an “atta boy!”
I LOVE this podcast because I LOVE the beauty of DO OVERS! Doesn't take long to listen to. Hope you will check it out!

Neuroscience shows “repairs” with your kids are more important than perfection! Repair builds resilience!
Have you heard the term “Good Enough Parenting”? I know, it sounds like a pass, but it’s far from mediocrity—it’s a powerful reality backed by science and scripture!
In the 1950s, renowned pediatrician Donald Winnicott showed that parents don’t need to be perfect—they only need to meet their child’s needs about 30% of the time to raise secure, well-adjusted children. ✨Thirty percent✨
The beautiful truth for Christian parents? God is abundantly and graciously at work in your child’s life, even when you’re not at your best. His goodness isn’t dependent on your goodness. Romans 8:28 reminds us that God works all things together for good—including our less-than-perfect parenting.
Neuroscience supports this: Research in attachment theory shows that repair after missteps is ✨more important✨ than being flawless. Kids learn resilience, and attachment is strengthened, by how we handle our own failures and repair the relationship.
Here are three attributes that matter more than perfection:
1. Consistency – Showing up consistently, even if it’s not perfect, matters most. Consistency and dependability give your child security, helping them feel safe, build trust, and develop emotional resilience.
2. Embrace repair – When you mess up, model humility and reconciliation by acknowledging your mistakes, apologizing, and rebuilding connection.
3. Trust God’s goodness – Lean into His grace. God is writing your child’s story, and while you play an important role, you’re neither the hero nor the villain. Your job is to guide and nurture, but transformation comes from God alone. Rest in knowing His plans for your child are greater than your parenting, no matter how imperfect.
Ready to embrace parenting with peace, purpose, and grace? Our book The Flourishing Family is full of practical wisdom for imperfect parents walking with a perfect God. Comment BOOK and I’ll send you the link!
