The first day of preschool is an exciting milestone filled with new friends, new experiences, and lots of learning! It’s completely normal for children (and parents 😊) to feel a few butterflies as they prepare for this big step.

Here are a few tips to help ease those first-day jitters:

🌟 Talk about school in a positive way
Share excitement about the fun things they will do—making friends, playing, creating, reading stories, and exploring!

📚 Read books about starting school
Stories about preschool can help children understand what to expect and feel more comfortable with the idea of going to school.

🎒 Practice the routine ahead of time
Let your child practice putting on their backpack, getting dressed, and walking through the morning routine.

😊 Keep goodbyes short and confident
A loving hug, a smile, and a reassuring “I’ll see you soon!” helps children feel secure. Children often take their cues from us, and a confident goodbye shows them they are safe and ready.

💙 Allow your child to have big feelings
Some children may walk in excited, while others may need extra time to warm up. Both are completely normal!

⭐ Celebrate this big milestone
Take a first-day picture, let them choose a special outfit, or create a fun tradition to make the day memorable.

As we get ready for an exciting new school year, we wanted to share a helpful reminder about what your preschooler will need each day. 💙

Please send your child with a backpack that is large enough to hold:

👕 A full change of clothes (including underwear and socks)
📁 A folder for important papers and projects (We will provide the folder)
🍎 A lunchbox for days your child attends Brunch/Lunch Bunch

A backpack that is easy for your child to carry and open independently is best. Helping children learn to manage their own belongings is a great way to build confidence and independence! 🌟

Did you know that the small movements children make every day help prepare them for writing? 🖐️💙

Fine motor activities strengthen the muscles in little hands and help develop the coordination, control, and confidence children need for future writing success.

At preschool, children build these important skills through fun, hands-on activities like:
🎨 Painting and drawing
🧩 Building with blocks and manipulatives
✂️ Cutting with scissors
🧵 Lacing and threading activities
🖍️ Using crayons, markers, and pencils
👐 Playdough and sensory activities

These activities may look like play (and they are fun!), but they are also helping children develop skills they will use for years to come. Every pinch, grasp, squeeze, and scribble is a step toward stronger writing skills! 🌟

👕🎨 Dress for a Day of Learning and Fun! 🎨👖

At preschool, every day is an adventure! From painting masterpieces and exploring sensory bins to outdoor play and hands-on science activities, our little learners stay busy discovering the world around them.

We encourage children to come dressed in comfortable, play-friendly clothes that allow them to move, explore, and create with confidence. While we do our best to protect clothing during messy activities, there will be days when paint, mud, glue, or other creative materials find their way onto shirts and pants—and that’s okay! Those little messes are often signs of big learning moments. 💙

Please choose clothing and shoes that your child can easily manage on their own, and send them ready to learn, play, and have fun!

After all, the best preschool memories are sometimes made with a little paint on our hands and a little dirt on our shoes. ❤️
