TOMS hosted a successful week 1 of HCS Summer Scholars program this week. The program is targeted towards HCS GT students and offers participants a wide range of classes that included robotics, painting, Spanish, history, and STEM activities. Students were able to collaborate with other GT students and teachers from all around the district. Teachers Stacey Shankle, Lexi Cheek, and Jackie Varcadipane represented TOMS well with their engaging courses!
Mrs. Yalanda Bell, HCS Chief of Staff, and Mr. John Washburn, Executive Director of Accountability & Assessment visited to see students in action while parents were invited for a final showcase this Thursday. It was truly a fantastic week.

Hi, my name is Megan Leduc, and I am so excited to be joining the Silver Foxes community!
This will be my eighth year in education. Throughout my career, I have taught fourth and fifth grade and have also worked as a reading and math interventionist. Originally from New Hampshire, I began my teaching journey in Charleston before making my way to Myrtle Beach. I am proud to hold a master’s degree in Elementary Education with an additional 30 graduate credit hours beyond my degree, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Business Law.
Outside of the classroom, I coach adults in barre and yoga. I am a firm believer in the power of movement and community, and I enjoy watching others discover their inner strength and confidence.
When I’m not teaching or coaching, I love spending time with my partner, Jason, and our animals, Harley and Luna. My other hobbies include reading, listening to music, and exploring local coffee shops.
I look forward to meeting everyone and becoming part of such a wonderful school community!

Perla Diza Vargas and Andrea Chavez Garcia, eighth graders at Ten Oaks Middle School , may have only won second place at the state National History Day competition, but their website project has been selected to be showcased at the National Archives!
They are among a select group of just 12 student entries from across the United States chosen to participate in this exclusive showcase hosted by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) Foundation. As part of this honor, the students will have the opportunity to present their research, engage with National Archives professionals, and take part in special educational activities and a reception organized by the NARA Foundation.
Congratulations, Perla and Andrea!

What are the chances?! Rylan Farrow ran into Mrs. Catherine Paske on a street in Paris! 🌍🇫🇷
It’s always amazing to see where Silver Foxes travel and even more incredible when paths cross halfway around the world.

Hi! My name is Melissa DeRitis, and I am so excited to become a Silver Fox this year!
This will be my 9th year in education and my first year in Middle School. Throughout my career, I have taught 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade, most recently as a 5th grade teacher and member of the founding staff at Ten Oaks Elementary School.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education from Gwynedd Mercy University and hold master’s degrees in Integrative STEM Education and Educational Leadership. I also completed my Educational Leadership internship at Ten Oaks Middle School, so I am thrilled to be joining this amazing staff and seeing many familiar faces again!
Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Nick, our sweet son, Scottie, and our two dogs, Tito and Ollie. I also love traveling, spending time by the pool, and cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles!
I am looking forward to meeting the students and families of Ten Oaks Middle School and am especially excited to see some of my former 5th graders around the halls this year!
