PALM PILOT — Anyone else write important notes on your hand...and then wash it off later?

Old school...

LONG-HAIRED HIPPIE — These are throwback photos of me back in 1972 and 1970. In the color photo I was barely 18 years of age and had already hitch-hiked thousands of miles around North America.

What’s really crazy is that 7 years after this photo was taken, I started working with the Washington Bullets/Wizards...becoming one of the first Chaplains in the history of the NBA.

I had to confront a whole lot of juvenile behavior/thinking during those 84 months between 18 and 25 years of age.

I had left home as a rebel without a pause...from Three Hills, Alberta (Canada) at 17 with my friend, Bob Kirk. Prior to this photograph I had traveled across North America from California to Maine in the summer of 1972.

If I were to locate my scrapbook and show some “Verbal Snapshots” of my adventures while on the road, they would include:

——
1. Trying to hitch a ride, twenty miles from civilization, in the middle of the Canadian Rocky Mountains with a road-closing snowstorm brewing. (Anxious)

2. Valiantly selling magazines in Vancouver, British Columbia, trying to make a buck. (Disillusioned)

3. Spending almost three weeks in a juvenile detention facility in Portland, Oregon. (Terrified)

4. Trying to hitch a ride for fifteen hours —stuck in Lodi, California. (Frustrated)

5. Shoveling snow from many doorsteps in Seattle, Washington. ($58 richer)

6. Panhandling and shoplifting in Victoria, British Columbia. (Excited)

7. Sleeping beside the road in W**d, California. (Lonely)

8. Sitting in an evening church service as a long-haired hippie, after smoking dope and drinking beer at an afternoon party in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. (Amused)

9. Working as a baker’s helper in a fancy Portland, Maine, restaurant. (Bored)
———
On Sept 10th, 1972 (on a Sunday evening at around 10pm) my whole life changed. At the risk of sounding Pollyanna-ish...an unexpected, profoundly spiritual encounter with the Jesus of the Bible gave me a whole new direction.

That spiritual encounter/decision literally changed the trajectory of my life. And there are a number of people online — from Canada, California, Maine and other parts of the world — who can verify that change.

ROSETTA UNIVERSE (57 sec): For All Kids from K to Gray — Critical Thinking & Problem-Solving.

Hi, I’m Dr. Joel A. Freeman, the Founder of the Rosetta Universe®. Join us in transforming this ancient artifact — the Rosetta Stone — into a modern metaphor for critical thinking and problem-solving — https://rosettauniverse.carrd.co

The Rosetta Universe is utilizing important elements of the epic historical drama of the Rosetta Stone as a gateway to invite kids of all ages to use their God-given brains before, during, and after engaging technology.

Young people today are overloaded with information, but most do not have a roadmap for the practical use of that knowledge.

By turning thinking into a simple 7-step ROSETTA process, we are making it feel doable rather than intimidating.

It shifts the focus from being smart to being disciplined, which is a game-changer for many students who struggle.

Our reach is for the following grade bands: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, 9-12, college, and beyond.

Give me a call with any wisdom and advice. Here’s my personal cell: 410-991-9718. Looking forward to our conversation.

DEEP SEA FISHING in the BAHAMAS — An annual event for some years. We catch Mahi Mahi, Grouper, Yellow Fin, Bonita, Barracuda and more.

Our crew is called “Le Gulls”. Owner of boat is an attorney. Name of the boat, with three 300 HP engines. A lot of get up and go.

We go out about 32-35 miles. If the fish aren’t biting deep, we start trolling. We keep a watch out for birds diving for small fish. Because wherever the small fish are swimming near the surface, the big fish are lurking underneath.

We cook these for a big dinner on the Grand Cay!!

Out on the water for several days, from early morning til late into the evening.

For 3 decades I traveled to 55 countries facilitating customized training for Heads of State & their senior advisors, leaders of multinational corporations, educators, and directors of government organizations. Grateful for every open door — https://JoelSpeaksRealGood.com/about

On many of the international trips we would frontload or backload them with 3-5 days so that my wife, children or relatives could hang out together in some exotic country like Switzerland, Kenya, Sweden, Barbados, or Iceland.

Even though I was the keynote at much larger events (up to 50,000 people), much of what I did was proprietary, behind closed with perhaps 12-25 in a boardroom. I did a lot of advance due diligence so that whatever was addressed would provide long-term takeaways for each participant.

I will still speak occasionally if an event planner calls me again. But for the most part I am focused on launching some other purposeful projects.

Over the decades I made an interesting discovery, with some exceptions on both sides. The organizations paying the most for my professional services were almost always unbelievably easy to work with, and the most appreciative afterwards. The organizations who paid the least made the most unusual and stressful demands and were the hardest to work with.

I made a personal pledge early on…that I would refund the total amount paid, if the leadership of the organization wasn’t 110% satisfied in what I delivered for them. I returned the funds only once over the decades of speaking professionally. I’ll never tell. But you can imagine.

Some years back I gave a professional video editor a bunch of videos and told him to surprise me. Below is the “sizzle video” he created for me.
