NORTH KOREA & DMZ VISIT — On July 12th, 1993 I was given a high level briefing at the DMZ (De-Militarized Zone). See the photo of the hat given to me, that was personalized for me. I was a bit overwhelmed and surprised by their forethought when they gave me the gift of the hat with my name on it. I sat in the same chair and received the same briefing President Bill Clinton had received the previous day, on July 11th, 1993.

General John Tilelli was the Commander of the Army Base. He gave me one of his “dog tag” coins as a gift. Those reading this who have been in the military know that it is a high honor to receive a challenge coin. I have quite a number of those coins given to me over the years.

A soldier assigned to giving these types of briefings gave me an historical overview of the stand-off and showed me the tunnels dug by N. Koreans...recently exposed.

At the end of the briefing, I was told to make no sudden movements while we were on the DMZ. Some of the soldiers I saw were standing with only half of their bodies exposed. That is the norm at the DMZ. On the DMZ we saw the actual table in a small building in the middle of the DMZ used for face-to-face negotiations in the past.

We could see NK soldiers in the building opposite, looking at us through their binolulars. There is a NK town built up right at the DMZ to show the world that NK is prosperous. Thermal photography has been taken of that pretend village and no body heat or any other type of heat was found. An illusion.

I met soldiers stationed at the DMZ who were on a 45 second response time — 24/7. There is little to no vegetation as you approach the region near the DMZ. You see machine gun turrets everywhere. And the concrete “bridges” over the main roads are designed to be blown up the moment an emergency is alarmed. That way those roads are closed to traffic immediately.

The purpose for my visit to S. Korea in 1993 was to conduct training for military (Army) leaders coming in to Seoul from around the Pacific rim for the training. I also conducted a training event for leaders at the Navy Base in Puson.

NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 3: Twentieth Century Fox leased one of my Rosetta Stone replicas for six weeks during filming on the Vancouver, BC movie set.

Here are some of the photographic images from the set. It was one of the last movies starring Robin Williams.

The replica won an Oscar. Just kidding. 😂

NBA WASHINGTON BULLETS/WIZARDS — For 20 seasons I was honored to serve as mentor/chaplain for the team — https://NBAmentor.com

Some time ago I rediscovered 7 season passes from the 1990s that permitted me all-access to the arena on game nights. Still looked like a kid in two of them, even after more than 15 seasons under my belt at the time. Ha...

Also, I’ve included different photo perspectives of my ring, a treasured memento from the 1977/78 NBA Championship win over Seattle (14k, 80g, weighs over 3oz...it’s heavy). It’s not nearly as fancy or as bling as the modern pro championship rings, but I kind of like its simplicity — with my “JAF” initials on the inside.

Many times when I speak, I allow one specially selected person to wear the ring during the entire event (longest serving in industry, owner of company, someone celebrating their birthday, etc)...to honor them. You’ll see a picture of a woman at a recent event who wore it proudly.

This was a wonderful 20 seasons. Still keep in touch with a lot of the guys. Retired in 1998. That also happened to be the year when the team changed the name to Wizards.

ALASKA FISHING TRIP some years back, which included flying in a single engine plane, camping, a bit of hiking and a whole lot of fishing for red salmon on the Kenai and Russian Rivers. Had a blast!!! Been salmon fishing off the coast of British Columbia a number of times. Second time in Alaska.

I was packing a .44 pistol most of the time. Wearing bear bells is a joke. In one picture you see a black bear not far away behind me.

Was with Dave Bronson, a great friend over the years. He was a Delta pilot for many years. We flew in his single engine plane to his cabin about 40 miles north of Anchorage.

Love the people of Alaska. It takes a special person to live there.
