Mustang Indian Education The Title VI Indian Education Program serves Native students in the Mustang School District.

We strive to assist our students by increasing their knowledge of cultural identity and awareness, increasing academic achievement, and increasing college enrollment or pursuit of career pathways.

Looking for something to do after school this fall? After-School Stickball starts Thursday, August 27, and is open to current OKCIC patients ages 13 and older. Youth, adults, and parents can participate together or on their own while learning and playing this traditional Native game. The class meets Thursdays from 4:30–5:30 p.m. through October 8. A current nutrition referral is required, and applications are due August 20.

Our last (but certainly not least!) staff member is Brooklynn Bear! Ms. Bear teaches second grade at Mustang Trails Elementary. She also serves as the Teacher Sponsor and Cultural Events Sponsor for our program! Alongside her teaching duties, she helps plan and organize cultural events for our Mustang students, collaborating with staff to create fun and meaningful experiences.

Fun facts about Ms. Bear - She loves beading and sewing in her free time, she’s a huge Thunder fan, and she wouldn’t survive without coffee and a good book!

Our elementary students around the district are served by Sheena Gaines, who we are delighted to have on staff full-time this year! Sheena provides academic instruction and support while implementing culture in individual and small group settings for our Native students. She also collaborates with teachers and staff to assist in planning effective interventions to help students succeed.

We have another new team member this year! 😃 Karissa Brock will be working as our Title VI Student Support Facilitator and Native American Club Sponsor at Mustang Central Middle School and Meadow Brook Intermediate! She will serve as a support resource and advocate for Native kiddos at those sites. Through active collaboration with educators, families, and community partners, she will connect students to the tools they need to thrive, fostering strong identity, self-assurance, and academic success.

You can find Mrs. Brock in Room 111 at MBI and Room 210 at Central.

Fun facts about Mrs. Brock: She has 3 boys! They love to go camping and exploring outside. She and her family are also HUGE OU football fans!

We are so excited to introduce Amy Cozens, our new Title VI Student Support Facilitator for Horizon Intermediate and Mustang Middle School! She will work to connect students at these sites with resources and collaborate with other stakeholders to contribute to student success. Her goal is for students to feel valued, supported, and confident in who they are.

If you know her, you love her! Allison Phillips is our Title VI Student Support Facilitator and Native American Club Sponsor at Mustang North Middle School and Canyon Ridge Intermediate. She works to ensure that her students have the tools to succeed by providing resources like academic tutoring, mentoring, school supplies, and engaging in cultural activities that celebrate their heritage.

Our next staff shoutout is Bailey Murrah, our MHS Indian Education Advisor and Native American Club Sponsor! Bailey provides academic support and cultural opportunities for our Title VI students in grades 9-12. Students can see her for tutoring, ACT prep and registration help, college and career guidance, and help finding tribal resources. Welcome back to school, everyone! We hope your students’ first two days last week were wonderful. Our team has grown, and we want to introduce (or reintroduce) our staff members!

Let’s start with our Coordinator of Indian Education, Katy Patterson! Katy provides academic resources, coordinates events, manages the Title VI and NYCP grants that fund our program, and provides cultural opportunities for our Indian Education students district-wide.

Her office is located in the Mustang Educational Resource Center, and the best way to reach her is by emailing [email protected].

Fun facts about Mrs. Patterson - She taught Latin for 12 years and loves morning coffee and a good mystery podcast!

For the 2026–2027 school year, all parking permit forms will be completed digitally. The parking form is now available in Parent Portal under FORMS for all MHS students. Parking Permits are available for pick during schedule pick up providing all steps outlined in the form are completed.
